If you have some way to attached to the shed wall, Lowes has a hanging bracket for weedeaters.

I have even used some old bike hooks and put them in the wall . Worked pretty darn good

Vertically is fine, as stated go to lowes and for $10 they have a bracket in their garage section that you can mount and hang it on. I've stored mine like this for over 10 years without issue.

This is similar to what I bought from Lowes:

http://www.lowes.com/pd_129720-46-GAWEXXWDSH_4294857683_4294937087?productId=3063253&pl=1&currentURL=/pl_Garage%2BAccessories_4294857683_4294937087_

I don't know why I couldn't find the one that I bought (other than Lowe's and HD's websites suck), but it's a pretty good one. Go to their storage section and you'll find it. And you'll want to store it vertical to keep gas from dripping out.

You should store trimmers horizontally. The grease inside of the tube that lubricates the drive cable can run down to the low end, over time, if stored vertically.

Also, make sure that the gas cap is facing upward when storing. Some brands vent the gas tank through the cap and you could leak fuel mix.

I hang mine vertical from it's head... No leaking. Hook similar to above.

Mine have been hanging vertically for years and I've never had an issue. I personally think it's a non-issue. If you use them, service them, and prep them for storage you should have no issues storing them in either direction.

I always wondered about this also. I kept my echo leaning up vertically in the corner with the engine on the floor and the cutting head at the top. But my bro-in-law said I should hang it from the wall with the engine on top and cutting head hanging lowest.

Needless to say it still sits in the corner all by it's lonesome. Not sure what is right or wrong.
