How much longer do you think a 94 Dodge Ram 1500 w/ the V8 318 w/ 217,000 miles would last if it has been taken care of well and is mainly highway miles?

I was considering buying a Dodge and researched them and found a lot of them were having problems with tranny's going out. Since your probably going to be pulling with this truck you might want to rethink this buy. I ended up buying a Chevrolet.

It'll probably last a good long time. The 318 is a great motor. Dodge has never been known for great fuel mileage though. The automatic is the weak link in the drive train, but I've heard of very few mechanical problems with them in the 1/2 ton.

Well i will never buy a dodge again i bought a new one in 2000 ram 1500 quad cab 4x4 with the offroad package and the trans went out at 54000. since i did not buy the exteneded warrenty i have to pay 1500 for a rebuild, and gas mileage on a 360 with 4:10 rear sucks

Just about to turn 80k miles on my 00' Ram Sport. Bought it new in 99'. It has been a great truck. This last year everything is going wrong. Replaced ball joints, rear u-joint, rear axle seal and, just bought a new DT trac-bar. Other than all that, I haven't had any tranny troubles or anything wrong with the motor. I would buy another one tomorrow. I'm a fan of the SFA so Chevy was not a consideration.

thats nothing. my 2001 1500 4x4 ram tranny went at 16000 km, which is something like 10000 miles

over $5000 work done, and that doesn't count all the warrenty work. at least three times had major warrenty work done. actually, including yesterday, make that four (this time brakes and AC)

BUT please note i have no real bias against dodge, just against half tons. in 3/4 ton form, all will serve well. but half tons are meant to do no more work that sitting in a driveway.

Can you tell me more......What kind of truck is it? Which engine? Are you saying it has 302,000 miles on it and you have pulled a trailer w/ it all that time? Has the engine ever been rebuilt?

my truck is a 95 f150 with 302 engine it has 60k miles and is dropping about a quart of trans fluid a week i wouldnt consider a truck with that many miles or size if you plan on pulling

Keep up regular oil changes(2500) and other routine maintence and they'll last forever. I have a 98 with 110,000 and nothing major. A fuel pump is about all. And have a 91 with 287,000 miles with synthetic every time.. Same with it.. the most was a fuel pump.. Fuel pumps are a pain cuz there in tank..

U take care of it and it will last..

And I pull trailer with both..
