I thought you were gonna buy that v10 Dodge from the guy selling out? Looked like he was dragging his feet so you went another route. Nice Chevy, I have one with 454 and it will pull down a house.

Was it Lethal Weapon 2 where Mel Gibson did pull down a house with his big dually Chevy?

he dragged his feet for too long, so i jumped on this one. i also liked this one better because it has never had a plow on it so i know it wasn't beat to death.

that chevy will last longer then those dodges anyway. you will be putting trannys in those dodges while the chevy still works. but need a ford in that crew to compair to anything.

i run nothing but fords and they run tough. look at any big company "brickman trugreen, etc" they run nothing but fords. also that chevy will have nothing but dumb stuff go rong with it like ac, dash lihts, switches, etc but i would never own a dodge.

THEGOLDPRO

i dont give a crap what kinda truck it is, as long as it can plow and tow a trailer. i have owned fords chevys and dodges, im not brand loyal.

that dodge will last just as long. A close friend of mine has a 1991 Chevy with 250,000 miles. Had a new tranny put in at 225,000.

That should prove, Dodges arent the only ones that need a tranny..

I'd expect a Chevy to last 300,000 miles before a Ford. I expect my 400small block in the 2500HD to hit 225,000 before it needs any major work. And the tranny will probably go out of it before the motor goes.

They all break. They all suck. It's just the one that you still like after fixing it. I like my dodge, but wouldnt hesitate to buy a gm or ford.

my dads got 268,000 and it is the most dependable truck we got. Most trucks will go 300,000 as long as the body holds up. I know a guy with 3 truck over 300,000 and one more than 400,000 miles.

My current 2000 Chevy Silverado has 256,000 miles on it, and is in perfect shape as we speak. It has required one fuel pump replacement to get it this far. I had 388,000 miles on my previous Chevy gasser when I sold it. Anyone ELSE want coffee?

Nice chebby, slap a set of running lights on the roof & it should be set to go. Go to summit racing & order oil/trans-fluid cooler & run after-market inline filters before the juice flows through the coolers & back into the engine & trans & that ol' chev should be fine. i know an old guy whose a retired long-haul trucker & he used to swear by his goof ol' dually chev with the 454  he hauled custom boats all over the country with it & had over 400,000 miles of the stock drive-trane because he was meticulous with it's maintenance. :usflag: My olf 79' super-cab Ford had 365,000 on the stock 351M/C6 engine & trans before I swapped the 300 I6 in. Take care of em' & they'll last as long as you need then to... Can't be said for many of the new trucks of any breed hahaha...

Later!

thats 100% true. it gets to the point where you are putting as much money in it a month as a new payment would be. when you get bigger and start getting into the accounting you will see. it cheaper to buy a new truck then to buy a used truck but starting out its fine.

I could buy a lot of $2000-$5000 trucks for your one big duly ford(in your picture) :D truck parts or cheap compared to mower parts. Labor is what kills

how much is down time worth? I dont have the time or patience to deal with old trucks.

I've had all 3. first truck when I was 16 was a '88 short bed chevy 4x4 with a 350. had 210,000 on it and ran like a top. second was a '89 chevy with a 305 in it (winter beater) with 265,000 on it. ran great no problems. Also had a '98 Dodge with a 360 in it that spun the rod bearings with 39,000 miles on it. Then had my Ford last summer which I really liked and now I'm back to a Chevy, this time with a Diesel and I really like it, just put ball joints and a starter in it, but hey, what can you expect from a work truck that has 125k on it and mostly still original parts. whoever said "they all break" is exactly right. what we do with these trucks and the abuse you put them through, you have to expect to do repairs, no matter what brand it is.

that is 100% true. the trucks do nothing but work and you want something reliable. parts and labor is not the big expense. it down time that kills you and you will all see that and most have seen it first hand.
