The ford was the biggest piece of junk, blew head gaskets 3 times, blew egr valve 2 times, the ac went out, 4x4 went out. the bad part is i owned it for a year.

this is a picture of one of my yards i did last week.

Is that common experience for you ford owners out there or is this just a fluke or something?

By the way, the lawn looks amazing!

you were to easy on it. i am hard on mine and not much goes wrong with it. the one thing i really hate is it takes way too much diesel. my dodge cummins i can drive twice as fast twice as far it seems. my dads 250 needed a new injector and he is easy on it his. both have similur miles and are the same year.

6.0? I have to get rid of mine! But I am looking for a new ford. Mine has had the injector sleeves replaced the injectors replaced, Egr replaced, oil cooler replaced, turbo worked on, no I have a cracked head that's going cost some where between 4500-6000. So I am looking for a new one before she quits me!

must be the 6.0. ford had a bad rap for those, you should check out the new 6.7, amazing if you ask me. they should have done thier own engines years ago. too bad you went for the horns, but at least if you got the diesel i can understand

My Fords have been great in the past. before i got into lawncare i had a 1999 expedition with 160,000 miles that never needed a major repair. My new F350 has the same 5.4 Gas V8 so we will see how long it lasts for, hopefully get her to 200,000 lol. Never owned a diesel probably never will. the gas V8 has plenty of :weightlifter:

With regular mix of city and highway mileage and towing a small trailer with my mower and a dump trailer that weights a few tons loaded i get 12 Miles per Gallon, not bad for a heavy truck. i have plenty of pulling power the largest thing i have pulled so far is my fathers 20 foot sport boat and i went 80 towing that at 2500 rpm. My friend has a 6.4 diesel that he has never used for work it just a very expensive toy Lol. He gets 16 miles per gallon so weight the diesel versus gas cost to see which is better for u. I love my Gasser thats all ill say to try to sway ur decision.

If you where looking for a truck that would not have problems, it definitely is not a dodge.

Dodge has left far fewer owners stranded for "silly" issues than Ford with their 6.0. What a garbage motor!

My 2000 Chevy Silverado has 256,000 miles on it, and has pulled trailers all it's life. It has the 5.3 liter, with 4L60E transmission. I've replaced the fuel pump once. That's it. It still runs and drives like new, and has all the power it always had, and everything still works. It would pass for a 75,000 mile truck any day, if you couldn't see the odometer. Oh, and it got 21.5 MPG through two tanks of gas last year on vacation in the Rockies.

The last Chevy I had was an old 1988 model, with the 4.3 V6 and a 5 speed manual transmission. It had 388,000 miles on it when I sold it, and still ran great, but I did put a set of crank bearings in it once.

Jus sayin.......

Thanks for the replies. The ford was a 6.0. That was the most expensive truck i have ever owned. i forgot i replaced the oil cooler and something had to be done with the turbo. I used to be a ford guy but after that truck not anymore. The truck only had 85,000 miles. In my opinion the dodge pulls and has more power than the ford.

They arnt that good at all! I am having to replace mine because at 140,000 she is going to cost more to repair than its worth.

7.3 was a solid motor but underpowered compared to whats out there today.

I know more guys with good 6.0's than I do bad ones.. Once again have you formed your opinion based on what youve read online or do you actually have any personal experience with the motor?

If you where looking for a truck that would not have problems, it definitely is not a dodge.
No truck isnt going to have any problems. Its all in how you treat it and maintain it. My dodge has been more than solid with only minor repairs you'd expect out of any used truck. (knock on wood lol)

Get a smarty tuner for it and you'll wonder why you ever bought another truck.
An oaisis report on a 6.0 could have steered you away from her, sounds like you got one of the fun ones lol.

Nice job holding fairly straight lines on that slope! Sorry, but I have no sympathy for Ford owners, lol.

I have a junky 20 year old F250 and it's still running great. No major problems so far. I have looked for a Dodge for a while but most sellers are on crack it seems. Ask far too much money for what they have.

Eh'.... I dunno, I think a LOT of the 7.3 trucks were under GEARED more so than under powered; the 4.10 gear'd trucks would pull just about anything you hooked them upto; but the 2.55, 2.75, and 3.00 gear'd trucks were quite doggish... The auto vs. 4spd & 5spd made quite a difference for a lot of people as well.

Then there was also the non-turbo vs. Turbo charged 7.3's & that made a big difference on the power-band of the trucks. It all varied on how the truck was equipped.

Gears have a lot to do with it but you compare stock to stock HP/TQ #'s to what todays engines are puttin out you have to have a tuner on the 7.3 to even get in the range that today's motors are stock. Don't get me wrong the 7.3 is a workhorse and pretty damn reliable.

Non turbo 7.3's are just no fun... lol

I have a 6.0 in my dump....the list of issues is too long to list. Just threw 13 codes, no check engine light on, no one seems to know how to fix it. Ford dealer THINKS it might be the wiring harness which would require the whole cab to come off.
