Your smart looking to expand into online advertising. Google has, for all intents and purposes, replaced the Yellow Book as the primary vehicle for consumers to find local service companies (plumbers, roofers, landscapers)

For DIY I recommend:
1) GoDaddy - register your name (make sure it is relevant to your service area, not just "Dons Landscaping" but something like "South Bend Landscaping"
2) Host the new domain on a hosting provide. I recommend Hostgator... for one domain name its $4.95 a month for unlimted emails, data, etc. And super easy to work with
3) Set up your website with an out of the box CMS. Wordpress is best, and if you go with Hostgator you can set it up in a few clicks of the mouse
4) Download and install some SEO Plugins for your wordpress site to optimize it
5) Create the content for your website
6) Market your new website.. Set up a Google Adwords account, start doing some link building (if high competition in your area) so you rank organically, and start collecting reviews and adding to your site

This is my recommendation to do it right. The biggest cost will be your time and any advertising budget you set up on Google.
