Looking at a UD 1200 or 1400 Tuesday. It's an '04 w/ 87k on the 4cylinder diesel. Brand new 12' stakebody dump, hitch & tires. He's asking $19,000. My question is does anyone have a UD truck or know of they're reliability/quality? I don't see many around here, just Isuzus. Any pointers/tips would be great!

I used to have one. Pretty much considered to be the Caddilac of the Japaneese mid size truck.

I have the 1400 same year. Got it with 6-K and were up to 38-k I think. no problems with the truck I have not been thrilled with the dump unit on it, mine is a 14' but no complaints on the truck it self but lets face it the miles are so low I would not expect any problems.

The only thing I don't like is it sets so much higher than my Fuso. Hard for the old man to climb into . It rides rough but that will happen when your setting on top of the wheels, and top speed is about 60.

Do these tow well?

I pull a 8.5 X 16" trailer that has a Walker, 21 rotary 1-2 reels and a whole lot of other stuff usually 2-500 lbs fert, liquid products as well irrig parts, lights, you name it fuel station up front. I have never weighed my trailer but its packed. Plus my dump bed is so over built and heavy... I really regret that bed, but it came with the truck. 6-K miles and 30-K out the door, couldn't resist. Without the trailer its has as much pick up as my Dodge Cummins.
