Yesterday, someone with a northern CA website mentioned how they have seen their site show up as links on more pages, like reviews or blogs. This reminded me that websites are sort of like seeds.
Seeds grow, and grow and grow. And different seeds grow into different size plants, which develop different kinds of fruit.
More website owners may get greater satisfaction if their expectations were not to try and dominate page one of search results, but more so to see continual growth of their site over a period of years.
Presently, my site:
1. Brings customers 2. Sends business to other companies 3. Earns me Adsense income from Google 4. Earns Google money 5. Educates with advice tips 6. Finances my hiking travels, which in turn help build content further.
This has taken about 8 years now. All starting from 4 web pages.
One thing that I've found interesting over the years, is to revisit other websites and see how they have added to their content and changed designs.
What I noticed was that the sites which continually improved content, have grown in popularity or influence. Some more, some less. But they all increased.
Being #1 is not easy for most website owners. But increasing and growing is pretty easy. That makes it an encouraging goal to strive for.
