What is the best tow behind aerator on the market because I think I am going to pick up a JD lawn tractor cheap from one of my customers and I would like to start aerating. I have looked at source one, ryan, and blue bird. I am leaning toward the source one PL3660 versa tow because I like how you can make flip up the sides so you can get through smaller gates.

Any help? Somebody has to have experience with a tow behind aerator.

I have a 50" bluebird and love it. Hard to get into small places, but for open stuff nothing can beat it. And tons cheaper than a powered one.

I looked at this http://www.sourceoneope.com/pdfasset/PL3660.pdf source one and it cost $2878. I think that is a bit overpriced. How much did the bluebird cost? Thanks for the help.

Hi Trevor - We're in Des Moines. Been using 2 Ryan pull-behinds w/hydraulic lift for over 15 years. 48" width/pulled by John Deere 445's. Required horsepower = 20. Our 445's have 22. So far no prob's. These aerators will probably outlive me. Hope this helps. :waving:

I bought my bluebird used from RSC for only $500. Made my money back on the first job.

Ok I got some prices and I was wondering if they are good prices.

BlueBird TA10 $1199
Classen 48rt $2039.00 and 48rte $2493.00 plus frt
Lesco 48” = $1593.00
I am waiting for a price on a ryan

Does the Lesco come in a 36" model

I was quoted $2400 for the ryan and an extra $800 for the electric lift and $486 for the hydraulic lift.

Did you ever decided on a tow behind aerator and if you did what one did you get and how do you like it?

Hi Trevor -- I can't remember cuz it's been so long since we bought them (brand new). I DO know that NEITHER of those dealerships sell them anymore. Yet I'm pretty sure TurfWerks on Beaver Rd in Johnston sells them, cuz that's where we get parts for them.

1) Parts that usually shell out are 'wheel bearings', and sometimes 'bent rims'. We have also needed additional bracing/welding on the "tongue area" cuz that seems to be a weak point with these 500 lb units.

2) I highly recommend the hydraulic lift -- otherwise they're impractical to use. Also, don't get the 3-point unit, cuz you cannot turn while aerating.

3) If you want to see ours, just send me a PM. :waving:
