Its been extremely hot here these past two months and most of the grass is brown to the point you can feel it crack under your feet. We were experiencing mid July temperatures at the begining of June and mid August temperatures at the begining of July. The pavement is HOT!
As soon as you put the sealer down you will see steam rising off the surface so the only alternative is to add a extra gallon or two of water to the mix and mist the pavement before applying the sealer.
Ive had a few customers almost come unglued when they saw i was misting the pavement. They will ask the question "Isnt it best that the sealing be done in the hottest months and with the pavement being the at the hottest point". And it takes me about fiteen to twenty minutes to explain why i dont put sealer down on scorching hot pavement. Its hot and miserable and i sure dont feel like giving a asphalt sealing lecture while im trying to work.
But the fact im out there with a water hose and misting the pavement is causing a big concern (on the verge of being alarmed) when the property owner sees me doing this. Or when a spouse calls the husband who then leaves the work place to come home and make sure im not screwing up his driveway. Neighbors will also call the property owners for the same reason.
I even have a seperate piece of paper properly explaining why pavement will sometimes need cooling but rather than reading it they will come outside and start interrogating me about what im doing.
I simply cant get them to understand that whether they realize it or not it is not in my better interest nor the property owners better interest that i would put sealer down on scorching hot pavement.
