Interested in hiring a part timer. Do most of you pay with a w9 or do you 1099 them? Which do you think is better/easier and why?

If you are hiring as an employee, then 1099 is not appropriate. If you are hiring as an independent contractor, then the 1099 route is the right path.

"Better/easier" is not the question. What is right for your situation is at the heart of the matter. Most likely, you are wanting to hire an employee on a part-time basis. If that is the case, then using a 1099 is not possible. The terms for an IC are pretty tight.

Do a search in the business section. There are many threads on this topic. If there is still is a question, then talk with your accountant. The IRS penalties are significant.

yea, when I read this post, I thought, ARE you sure your ready for an employee?

sounds like you need a tax person to talk to.....

and I think you still need help in this area....

Forget hireing a helper. GO hire a tax man....

trust me. if you 1099 someone. you CAN LOOSE YOUR BUSINESS, and possabely your home
