Looking at f350 dually 4x4 diesel, how bad is the mileage. I can take anything over ten, but any worse it is hard to justify the diesel.

My fathers company just bought him a crew cab one ton 4x4 he said he's is getting 12mpg but he only has 1800 miles on it. As that truck gets older it will get better. I have a 6.0 when I got it, it only would get 11mpg now I get 20mpg.

Just curious how many miles do you have on it. My 2006 F350 has 90,000 on it and I am pulling around 6,000lbs. I am getting just under 10mpg. Was thinking of going v10 but went diesel for the the fuel savings. Now I am wondering where the savings are. Don't get me wrong I like the truck but was hoping to get at least 12 to 13mpg. What do you think about a banks kit??

I strongly recommend not doing nothing with a chip or programmer I had a bully dog and now I have a blown head! But mine has 150,000 when I got it it had 70 and was only getting 11.

check out the dieselstop.com

i have an 09 350 srw and get 14mpg combined, i do about 50/50 driving now that im out of school.

when i was doing more highway i would get 16-18 on the highway if your easy on it.

if you like the power then you can easily be seeing 10-12mpg consistently.

with a dually and the 3.73 or 4.10 rear you will most like be able to squeeze out around 12-14mpg consistently if you are easy on her.

or if you dont care about warranty, pull the dpf and crap, get a spartan and see 18mpg easy.

Funny thing you say that... Ford is releasing all new engines for the light duty trucks in 2011... they are starting to push for higher fuel mileage vs JUST raw power. The engine replacing the 5.4L is actually going to be a V6, a derivative of their new "Ecoboost" engines in the cars. It is going to be a twin turbo V6 will all the power of the big V8 when you need it but the mileage of the V6 when you don't. I am waiting for one of them to put a smaller diesel (I don't know... like a 3-4L) into a "light duty" F150/C1500 chassis to get better mileage.... it should pull all the weight needed yet still get respectable mileage on the days you aren't towing.

2010 models are extremely hard on fuel with the diesel motors. I've had one for 2 yrs and just traded up to the new 2011 f350. Big difference in fuel and the power.

If you are buying new then go with a 2011 6.7. Your MPG alone will make up the difference in cost over a 6.4.

They are better on fuel but not what the dealers said. Typically I would get 450 before I would need to refuel and now I get 550 before needing fuel. Kms that is. So thats about 20 percent better which is not bad really. On the highway it should get at least 700kms per tank.

i have a 2008 f-250 with the 6.4 power stroke, i get 12.3 when pulling the mowing trailer.
i run a 12 foot with 2 52inch standers on it. the new 6.7 gets way better than mine

I have a '10 f250 c/c swb 4x4 with 20's and a 3.55 rear end. Towing around 8-9,000lbs in a small town and having some unloaded miles mixed in I was getting 8.5-10mpg this summer. Unloaded down the highway at 65-75 I see 15-16. Never been on any strictly highway trips for a full tank so it's hard to know for sure what it would do running on the highway. My mileage numbers are hand calculated, even though the mpg lieometer on the dash Is usually not far off on my truck. I keep a close eye on my mpg.
One thing with the 350 is it probably has the 3.73 rear end so that might make it get a little worse mileage. The biggest mileage killer is the dpf filter and the regen process. I have watched my gauge on the dash go down 2mpg from start to finish! As soon as I have an extra $1500 I am going to do a tuner, exhaust and intake and maybe improve the mileage. Overall, these trucks are NOT known for record setting fuel mileage, but they are nice and have a lot of power to pull. Way more than any gasser!

the '10 feels like a "gasser" compared to the '11. :)

Lol I haven't drove one but have heard they are nice! When I got my 10 the 11s were just showing on the lots and they wouldn't budge off sticker. Couldn't justify the 14,000 extra.

I did real well with my 08 and almost as good on the 11. It was 83 list and I got it for 67. Not bad for a brand new model.
