I know its not this time of year yet, but i am just looking ahead.

So for pricing, I know i screwed myself on a couple estimates for last year but it was my first year in business. So the question is; how much can you increase the price of a cleanup from one year to the next even if the amount of leaves looks the same as the year before? or can you just increase your price to whatever is the right estimate even though it may be substantially higher?

You can correct your mistakes from last year, but you should talk to the customer to explain the reason for the change. Tell them you honored the price you gave them last year even though you realized you blew the estimate, but you will have to change the price going forward. Unless you were way way low on last year's price and they balk at a materially higher fee, most customers go along and appreciate your honesty.

I would be upfront before starting a new job with this issue.

I wouldn't start a job then hit the customer with, "Oh by the way I decided to charge more this year so fork over the dough."

Give them a chance to decide before then need your service again.
