Wanted to get thoughts on allowing customers to view and pay bills online through your website. We have a website, very basic. I want to revampt the whole thing and allow people to see and pay their bills. I think there are programs out there that will allow your customers to pay through their website, but I'm thinking directly on our website.
Thoughts, ideas?

i think its a good idea maybe people will pay more....( i doubt it though)
But i know some guys do it with paypal...
The customer gets money from their CC then sends it to you.

I take cards, and getting people to pay for their yard with is few and far between. It's even hard to get companies to pay with a card. But I have not set it up on my web site.

Accepting credit cards on your website can actually be a bit of a pain nowadays. The web authorities have something called PCI-Compliance. Basically, if you accept CC payments online and on your site, your responsible for the protection of that data. Your site has be be compliant, and you must purchase an SSL certificate (only the page where the customer enters the CC info needs to be secured). There's some other factors you must take into consideration, but in my opinion, it's probably best to go with Paypal to avoid the extra hassle and costs.

If you are using Quickbooks they have a fairly clean add on using Merchant Services. This is an outside vendor but it works seamlessly in Quickbooks.
We started with this service in January of 2010 and I do like it. Some people pay faster, some people probably spend money easier because it is on credit.
Customers set up a password on their first visit, after this they can see all invoices a past payments online.
There were some kinks to work out in the beginning but now it works very well. Security is very good through merchant services, probably better than anything you can do yourself. Yes there are some fees but we feel it is worth it.

Do you schedule and invoice using quickbooks and then have your site intergrated with QB's?

So I signed up for LandscapeBilling.com since I posted this and it has the option to allow customer to pay by credit card using Paypal. The customer can log in and see their invoices past and present and make payment by CC. You can pass the 2.9% fee onto the customer. I've been using it for about 3 months and no one has paid by CC yet. 2 people were about too until they saw the fee. They both decided to send in checks, which is fine by me. It's a good option to have, but I'm not seeing many people who are interested.
