Across from one of my accounts this was recently built. I never saw who did it but I hope it was at least the homeowner not a company:hammerhead: Yes those are patio stones as cap block:confused:

I figured since it was my first wall I would say someone else did it since I wasnt sure if I did a good job, I also did the custom planting in the steps:laugh:

Haha! Yeah we set it on there because we planned to demo the steps last. They were all held together with concrete. They took the longest to demo out of a 700 square foot patio.

My walls from years back that I didn't know what I was doing are still standing with minimal movement. What gives? Is it people just building on dirt? No compaction or granular backfill? I just don't understand how you can build a wall that fails that bad.

wow those 2 are bad! maybe we need to change this thread to Bad walls or something lol

What? In the first pick just paint it red like everything else there and you'll never see it. :dizzy:

i have seen even bad contractors do a half decent base, i think a lot of guys fail at the drainage, they don't realize just how important it is.

Oh wow. I see a couple Keystone Standards flipped vertical and Keystone caps flipped vartical as well in that. I've seen some haggard retaining walls before but nothing like that.

Those other walls have some bad settling going on as well. Drainage is very important as well as good compacted base soil then either class 5 or 3/4 clear as a base to set base course block on.

Alright,

this wall was JUST finished by a "contractor" by that i mean some moron who does side work for people, and is a complete hacker. I actually made a special trip back home to get my camera to go back and take pictures. I hope it looks as bad in pictures as is does in person.

Take note that the wall, the screenings, and the base are completely out of the ground on the far left of the wall, right where it drops off a foot or so. I'm not quite sure what the drain is about, he tied it to the downspout, but it runs up hill. man i love to see this crap......i about drove off the road when i saw this today!

I especially like the last one, nothing says "quality" quite like attention to detail.

I guess you cleaned up the empty beer cans that the moronic contractor left behind????

How can anyone consider that a quality or even acceptable job???

i couldn't zoom close, or clear enough. but that tan discoloration is the glue he used oozing out the entire front of the blocks.

yes and no....

Yes these guys are getting work they don't deserve,

No, because seeing some of the places the bad walls are located, i doubt they would pay me to build it. So the owners get a piece of crap because thats all they were willing to pay for.

These people have really been spending big, this is the same place of the wall I orginally posted. They added a deck....
If you look closely the deck goes down to the right

I love it when people call us to fix stuff like that. Either way it's funny. I always get one of two comments. Either they realize that you get what you pay for and realize they made the mistake by hiring Cheapiez Landscaping or they don't and blame it on the landscaper or hardscaper rather than blaming themselves for not doing due diligence.

That deck and wall will be on the news someday, when the wall falls over and takes the deck out....:nono:

well it looks like they got the proper permits for the deck and wall! how the F**k can people put s**t like that up and expect the city or town not to have them tear it down? just throwing money away, pisses me off
