I found and older thread on this subject but it took some searching so wanted to "refresh" the post with more key words.
My Z4 starting maing a noise which was caused by the idler drive pulley and belt bouncing aka vibrating. Made the whole unit vibrate and the engine look like it was vibrating. In an earlier post it was mentioned this could be one of several things including an idler pulley that was not rotating freely on its bearing and not getting proper tension, or else a small object like a rock or twig lodged on the v of one of the drive pulley's.
So I tokk the belt off and discovered the core of a pine cone lodged in the v of the left drive pump pulley. Easy to fix and now my brother in law thinks I am a genius.
Thanks again for a great forum
