After catching on something, one of the wires leading to my clutch broke close to where it enters the clutch assembly. In fact, after I removed the clutch, I could just barely feel some wire where it passes through a rubber grommet into the body of the clutch. Really, couldn't see any wire but, I could feel it.
Figuring I had nothing to lose, I stuck a soldering gun on the little piece of wire. Amid smoke and fumes from the rubber grommet, I managed to place a drop of solder in the middle of the grommet eyelet hoping to catch some wire. Fiddling with the soldering gun, I carefully soldered on a piece of new wire. I braced the new wire with some clear silicone to help secure it. This fix seemed to work. However, I think it is temporary.
With that in mind, I have a couple of questions.
The first is, how difficult would it be to tear apart the clutch and make a more reliable repair? If not too difficult, any tips for the disassembly/assembly?
Secondly, assuming that can't be done, where is the best place to buy new clutches? This particular mower is a Ferris IS3000.
