I started in high school with a new woods zero turn. I got the money to buy the new mower from selling my fair steers. I still have that 18 year old mower and it is used as a back up mower.lol. I drove a ford ranger that was so rusty you had to get your tetanus shot, just to ride in it. lol

started out with a 1988 full size chevy blazer, with a crapsman hand mower! then moved to a chevy pickup with two mtd tractors. years later two trucks and 4 mowers with three workers.their was less competition back then. i bagged all the grass and used garbage bags to haul clippings away.

Started at 7 or 8 with my dads ride on John Deere tractor. Had 5 houses that I mowed, within a quarter mile. I would just drive the tractor there.

Once I was big enough to use my Dad's Gravely walk behind I expanded. I used a lawn cart you tow behind your tractor to carry my trimmer, blower, and gas, and hooked it to the Gravely and drove to all of my lawns. My farthest lawn was about 2 miles away. Did that till I got my license and started using my Ford Escort to tow!

As a self employed LCO - I started with an '81 Mercedes 300TD wagon, a cheap 5X8 tilt trailer, a used Scag 36" belt driven walk behind, a cheap Murray 21" walk behind and all Home Depot 2 cycle equipment.

At my peak before the economy tanked I was running four trucks and crews, 3 for maintenance and one irrigation/landscape.

Now I have a '05 F350 quad cab dump with the V-10 and 6spd which just turned 77K miles, two other trucks for the remaining crew, a Dodge Dakota which hauls the spray rig and a crew cab F350 srw p/u for the guys and about $100K in equipment/trailers/dingo/tractor, you name it - all paid for thank you very much.

If I hadn't lost over $540K in my divorce my one home would have been paid for by now. As it is I have maybe five more years and my second one will be paid off - the first home went to the battle axe ex.

All with-in the last ten years.

You'd think I'm joking but:

Honda 21" mower with a smoky engine I borrowed from my dad (later that year bought a 21" crapsman), red radio flyer wagon, weedeater trimmer, and broom (though at some point I bought a weedeater blower).

Eventually went on to get my BS in Horticulture....and still doing this crap after all these years. I think I'm nuts for not looking into other options when I was younger. :dizzy:

Way back when I first started out (aka: earlier this year.....) I used a half-ton Chevy pickup that I already had. I knew I couldn't do what I wanted with just a push mower, so I went and got a loan (GASP!!!) and bought a used landscape trailer with 4-ft sides, cage, trimmer racks, line spool holder, gas can racks, etc. Also bought a used Scag 36" belt drive, and a used Cub Cadet Z-Wing 48". Bought new trimmers, edger, and BR600 backpack blower.

All season I have kept only what I needed of the earnings, and put the rest in my business account. Now it's all paid for, and I'm currently in the process of trading off my Z for a new Bob-Cat hydro walk behind, which will be paid for as well.

So I did what I set out to do in my first year: collect and pay for some nice equipment, and get enough accounts to keep the money flowing (schedule has been full since June). Now, next year, barring any major breakdowns or other unforseen event, I'll be able to actually POCKET some money.

by my second year i had a exmark 52" tthp with stand on, bagger and stripe kit. also bought pruner attachment for ryobi and a stihl fs55 trimmer. also got a 6' x 12' open trailer.

1989. I was 23 years old now almost 46. I had an ugly beige nissan short bed truck with no air cond and I live in Arizona. I pulled a homemade trailer from a datsun truck and it had a bent axel that scrubbed the tires. I used my grandfathers old craftsman mower and a bent shaft line trimmer that ran like a raped ape and I yearned for the just introduced brand new honda commercial mower. I later settled for a sensation with a five horse briggs motor and was in heaven. Now I use honda's, exmarks, redmax, and shindaiwas. I still have six 21" sensations just waiting to be put to use one day in the future, maybe. Now I feel old....

Started with my chevy 1500 and a 22" yard machines push mower. I already had a 2 cycle Poulan curved shaft trinner -- but the real pain was the cord on my Toro Yardbroom blower.
