View Full Version : Blade test results for discharge performance

I saw a fairly recent post which mentioned that Magna-Matic was testing some different blades for discharge performance.
I recall you mentioned the Terminator blades performed quite well. Any other blade performance insight you can provide? I've tried Gator Hi-Lift blades with good results on a Toro deck. There was noticeably more air flow going under the deck, and the discharge performance improved both in shredding and in throw distance. But I'd consider a set of Terminators if they tested better...
I need a 16.25" flat blade with 5/8 hole.

Blade / deck combinations can definatly vary - you'll need to test the results for yourself. But as I had stated in a previous post we've had the best results with the Terminators - the notched lift is tilted that seems to really provide a spray style discharge of the grass. As well as having a very good balance tolerance out of the box.
The Terminator Blades are available here:
Ask for Sue for information. Components Plus/Tracks Plus is a division of a company called Fisher-Barton which is an OEM manufacturer of blades for many mower manufacturers. They 100% check their blades for balance with Magna-Matic blade balancers - and have done so since the 1960's. So in general they make some of the highest quality blades. Unlike most blade manufacturers who only check 1 out of 100 or 1 out of 500 when manufacturing blades.

Thanks for the information. I'll give the Terminators a try!
Perhaps I'll do a blade-to-blade comparison with the Gators, and publish my findings here...

When testing always try to eliminate variables and make the information as quantitative as possible.
Be sure to let people know the mower model and deck info, because it does impact blade performance.

I just spoke to my contact at Components Plus, and due to some contractual issues - they will no longer be selling lawn mower blades, but rather just their track products. So the blades that Fisher-Barton/Components plus make are only available from the mower brand dealers - such as John Deere, Scagg, Husquvarna, all Brigg-Stratton owned mower companies, and more. And only as OEM blades - the Terminator and Eliminator are no longer produced.

Why are they still available on their web site.

I would call to make sure - I was told they are liquidating existing inventory.
