Greetings Gentlemen...I thought that it would be nice to introduce myself as a new member of the Lawnsite.com community. I have dibbled in a few other forum communities however i must state that this one has far more knowledge and activity then that any of the others i have visited. I have been doing landscape lighting since shortly after high school. And must say i have a long ways to go before reaching where i would like to be. I am 32yrs old. I started my career in the DFW area. The company i worked for specialized in HID..IE Merc, MH, and HPS. Mostly merc and now the moon pulse. I am currently employed by a franchise company on the verge of closing shop and have retained some of the basics in order to venture out on my own. Tax ID, bank acc, exploring insurance options, etc. I am very passionate about lighting and have grown attached to the Low voltage while working for this franchise. Customers approach me often and ask when i am venturing out on my own? :hammerhead: When the time is right folks.

I do not mention my employer out of respect...2 cents for what it is worth.

nik- welcome aboard. we are primarily low voltage here, not too many folks do the high pressure sodium, metal halide, or mercury vapor stuff. a few folks here dabble ( dibble ? ) in 120 volt stuff, but mostly 24 volts and under here. you don't need to mention the franchise, but I have to ask, what do you feel led to it's closing the doors? marketing? quality? pricing? or other things ?

ok...I'd look at some LED threads on here, you will find friends and some folks who are waiting and seeing on that technology. again, not asking you who, just asking HOW you think that business is failing. perhaps we could offer help on ideas and not repeating thier mistakes for your new venture.

I got the call first thing this morning to surrender keys, Blackberry, service records etc. The franchise was operating out of a public storage and low and behold all codes and locks had been changed i was required to have an escort to remove my personal effects from the facility.i.e tools, climbing gear, microwave, etc. Felt like i was being treated as a criminal. I never have and never would steal from them or talk them down to customers. Reality is now setting in.

I am considering putting a focus on Christmas light installations for starts. I have decorated some of the most prominent properties in the Park cities of Dallas and thought perhaps this will allow me to get my foot in the door with potential future clients of the Austin,Tx area. A bit nerve racked at the moment.
