I am currently in the market for a new exmark 36" wb. I was just wondering which engine is better. You can only get the 12.5 hp Kawasaki, or the 15 hp Kohler. I am currently only using a 21" honda commercial and a 36" Honda rider for the two large properties I mow. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have the 12.5 kawi. Its a very good motor. The kawis make more torque than the kohlers.
For most people though, its a ford vs. chevy debate.

Have an older JD GS 25 with the 12.5 Kawi on it and a new Exmark Metro HP with the 15 Kohler Command......go with the Kohler, much more power although the valve clacking takes a little getting used to. My other HP has the 14 hp Kawi and that has less valve clacking. The Kohler seems to be throatier than the Kawi in general. So far, I like the Kohler.

I may be really nieve, but I just bougt a brand new viking eXmark 36" and it has a 15 Kawasaki or how ever you spell it. It also has a flex-deck on it now and is mowing 54" - I have a thread as to that and will have a section of pics on my sponsor forum.
Would really like youall to visit the sponsor forums as we do pay for this site. If nothing else, just say hi;)
Try the Exmark Turf Tracer HP 36" if you are interested in a hydro WB. Mine has a 15 hp Kawasaki & ECS controls....and it is SWEET!

I can't swing the hydro, I am a part-timer and only have about 10 lawns right now. I am just looking to pay cash for something to up my productivity so I can pick up a few more lawns.

I too picked up a 32" Exmark Metro this spring as I was starting out with only a few lawns.
Just make sure you need the 36 and not a 32 if you are doing any properties with Gates. A few of mine would not get a 36 into them, but my 32 fits in them fine and dandy..
I am looking to keep upgrading in 50% increments.
21" self-propelled Toro
32" Exmark Metro gear driven.
Looking to get a 48 or 52" Exmark whatever, cheap.

I only have one that I can't get in w/ a 36". I went to the dealer and measured and then as I mowed I measured the gates.

i have the 15hp kohler on my 36". they have a special here that's been going on for a while for $1999. not particularly happy with my dealers service as of right now tho.

I am a part timer myself and run a metro 36" with a 12.5 kaw and think the kawi is the smoothest running engine I have ever had. I have heard nothing but bad thing about the single cylinder kohlers.

I take it you're looking at the Metro fixed deck. If you can swing it, I'd go with the Metro HP with floating deck. I had one but upgraded to the TTHP 48" hydro because the operater assist reverse on the Metro HP was too hard on my bad back.
Here are the engine options on the Metro fixed deck:
-12.5hp KAW (pistol grip, model M3613KA)
-12.5hp KAW (ECS, model M3613KAC)
-15hp KOH (pistol, model M3615KC)
-15hp KAW (pistol, model M3615KA)
-15hp KOH (ECS, model M3615KCC)
Can't go wrong with any Exmark machine.
Hope this helps.

I am looking at the HP. I know most peeps say you don't need a floating deck on a 36" but I think the cut is better.

I have the 36" fixed deck with the 12.5 kaw. Plenty of power for the average jobs, just dont try to kill it on the heavy overgrowth.

Ive got the 36 fixed with 12.5 kawi. With single blades it does well, with mulch kit it bogs and with doubles it can really bog especially with heavy leaves. I would get the 15 kawi twin. Mostly since it is easier to pull. O yes it is more hp.
