Today one of the guys running a wb (52"toro hydro) said it lost power and made a funny noise... Back at the shop this evening we started to pull it apart and found a broken rod!!!!
The wb has a kohler 18hp mag with abou 2400 hrs.(mid 90's model)
Do i need to stick with 18 hp or would a 16-17hp(kaw) work...
thanks

since you have it apart any way did it hurt the block or crank? if not why not rebuild it?

short block prices 1140.00 - 1400.00
new kaw 800.00 17hp
the head has a crack in it. (140.00)
crank is going to need to be turned...
a little bit of scoreing on the left cyl...
time to bore it
after 2400hrs its got a little play in it
I plan on a rebuild over winter and leave it on the shelf as an extra in case another mower needs it

A 17 kawi twin would fit fine on there. Those are nice machines with offset decks. Well you got your money out of the first engine.
