Which do you prefer? Blowing the hose dry with an air compressor or filling it with RV antifreeze? I've been told to do both and I suppose since the point is to prevent freeze bursting either will protect the hose but what about the pump?

I just drain my 300' of hose and pump RV (Pink) anti-freeze through the pump and valves. You will only go through about 1/2 gallon using this method. I also leave any T type or other valves in the open position. This way if you do get some freeze the open valves allow the expansion of water and you should have no issues with breaks.

With 300' of 3/8" hose I figure it should be about 1.7 gallons to fill the hose. What's the I.D. of your hose?

My ID is the same. If you have it all drained out you should not have any freezing to worry about. It won't hurt either way, however. The main thing is to get it all out, especially in the pump! They are not cheap to replace.

Yeah, I may pull the pump and bring it indoors for the winter.

Here's my math:
3/8" diameter is .1875" radius.

.1875 x .1875 is 0.03515625.

0.03515625 times 3.14159 is 0.1104465234375 sq. in.

300' is 3600".

3600" x 0.1104465234375 sq. in. is 397.607484375 cu. in. which gives you 1.72124452 US gallons.

I pull the hose all the way out it's down hill and drain it blow it out.

Remove all hoses from pump start pump pour rv antifreeze in pump than pour antifreeze in elbow in bottom of tank.

I recommend all the water be drained from the pump and lines. Most pumps can be run dry for the 30 seconds it will take to get the last bits of water out. The most damage will occur in the small areas in the regulator and gauge.

I am not a fan of anti-freeze since it is a pollutant and can maybe screw with your chemicals. Just get it dry as possible.
