Diesel pickups are getting way to expensive for me to consider. Anyone running a Ford Super Duty with the V10 gas engine?
I pull a trailer loaded with a stumpgrinder about 2 days/week, mostly in town.
Loaded trailer weighs 6500lbs. Wondering how it will handle this compared to my 7.3 Powerstroke. Also wondering about fuel mileage on one of these V10's.
Most of my driving is in town, without the trailer hooked on.
Anyone have experience, good or bad?

Well, that is a lot bigger/heavier rig than I would be using. I would think a diesel is the only way to go with that big heavy truck.

My brother had a v10 with a superchip. That was a Powerful Truck! He did nothing but complain about the mpg tho. Way cheaper than a stroker too.

If I can get some good data on the MPG's to expect with this setup, I could use that info., along with my annual miles, and figure out the annual cost compared to that of a diesel.

We have a 2008 450 extra cab w/ 12' solid side stake body w/ 4:88 rear. Love the truck no motor problems at all ordered it with the Torque shift trans and was still 6 k cheaper than the diesel at that time. Tons of power loaded or not we get 8 mpg.

My '01 F350XL, reg cab, SRW, 4x4, AT with 3.73s consistently gets 12.5 around town empty. Pulling a 7000# GVW enclosed trailer, the MPGs drop to 9-10. If I was to go back to '01 and was buying again, I'd have gotten a dually and 4.10s. Dispite that, I've been very pleased with the overall performance of mine (MPGs much better than my dad's 2wd GMC w/7.4 (granted there was about 5 years age difference), and am disappointed that Ford dropped the V10 from the pickup lineup. Have to see how the new 6.2 works out.

Thanks for the info. There is a local dealer here that has some new, leftover F250's with the V10 engine. I may try to make a deal before the end of the year. I think I can live with that fuel mileage.

The v 10 in a pick up is an awsome choice. The new 6.2 has yet to be proven and from what I have read it is low on power. Just go into it with an open mind knowing that you wont get the greatest mpg but will not have all the future high dollar problems that the ford diesels are known for. My thought was if it only last 100k I could put a brand new engine in it and still be ahead of the diesel option.

Id go with the V-10, the F-250 I drove with the 6.2 was not what I expected. Id rather have the 6.8 since it is proven... and the 6.2 wouldn't pull much better milage I would think..
