For those that spread large amounts of compost, what do you use? I'm looking at a Eco-Lawn applicator.

Also, what depth do you normally spread?

At ¼" it would take ¾ cu. yd. per 1000 sq. ft. which means I'd have to fill something like an Eco-lawn, with it's 11 cu. ft. hopper, 1.8 times per 1000 sq. ft. :dizzy:

On their site they say ½ cu. yd. per 1000 sq. ft. but even then the hopper would only cover about 800 sq. ft.

Am I reading this wrong? Is my math bad?

Yes depending on how heavy your putting it down, you will fill it a lot.
We use a metermatic and love it, normal depth for us is about 1/8 to 1/4" per application. I think Barry has a similiar one he's selling, a turfco I think, very good machine.

mark123: Glad to see you are getting involved in organic care... the wave of the future from the past. I'm looking at an Eco-lawn as well. You can probably heap it up to close to a half-yard. Yes, it has to be refilled frequently but any of the units made for the average residential yard are about the same capacity. If the capacity was larger the machine would be too large and too heavy.

Barry is Barry Draycott username phasthound. Look back a few threads and you will see "equipment for sale." He had a used EarthandTurf machine to sell.
He's in New Jersey.

Keep asking specific questions and we are all glad to help.
