I have a couple of questions on aerators and can't quite find the answers in the search.

1-Pattern - do you go around and around - or back and forth like mowing?
2-Towing - better off using a 4 wheeler or Scag Turf Tiger?
3-tow behind reccomendations?
4-do the tow behind units tear if you turn real sharp?

I have an old Lesco 30 (walk behind) that works ok - thinking about getting a tow behind unit for the larger areas.

Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated.

pattern... i do the perimeter first, then back and forth, then go perpendicular to that, to get double coverage.

i prefer using a ztr with an electric lift tow behind classen.

Classens have split drives, so when you turn, it will not tear the turf.

Thanks Dave. HOw does the electric lift work - did you have to wire a 12 volt plug (automotive type) on the back?

Captdevo,
I am confused - when you say 3 point hitch - are you referring to something you have on your ztr? All I can think of as far as a three point is on the back of a tractor.

it's convertable....tow behind a lawn tractor, 4-wheeler, ztr or connect to a tractor.

bob,

it's available, but it's not cheap, $900.

i'm working on a retro fit for these right now. if it works out, they should be less than $500

with the classen/lesco models, you have to replace complete wheel assembly.

For direction same as mentioned by captdevo

twice around the perimeter, back and forth, then if extra coverage needed back over opposite direction as in checkerboarding

captdevo,
I have three questions. Will the electric lift pick up the aerator w/ additional ballast added? How much ballast can be added and still pick it up w/ the electic lift? Does free shipping include shipping one to N.E. Ohio?:) ;) :) ED

yes indeed, the actuator easily lifted anything i've ever had on it.
i've had 500+ lbs. on one with no problem.

these units are heavy alone, not often have i added weight. depends on moisture, soil conditions and type of soil.

yes, free shipping is nationwide...

I didn't know such a thing existed..

Where can I get one? Do you have any pictures? Mounts to a Lazer.. no problem?

I would imagine you need to add substantial weight to the front of a Z to keep it from popping up on ya.. right?

I would gladly pay $900 if it works well..

I wanna see a picture..

Yes.. I know Dave. I have a Lazer Z & Lesco 48".

I want to see the lift. Is that possible? Is it heavy duty? Easy to install? Does it stay on the mower at all times?

Ohhhh... I was thinking that the entire aerator was going to lift up.

The wheel set-up on the Classen looks a little different than the Lesco. For instance.. I don't have a rod that goes from wheel to wheel. Is that part of the kit?

Will this deffinitely work on the Lesco?

Dave, do you think that would be able to jump curbs easily? About 120 times in a day? It does look like a good deal.

Do you think that i would be able to get away with just a pull behind aerator? I would much rather sit then fight with a walk behind. I realize that i can ride in open areas, but how about 15-20 K sqft lawns that have minimal landscaping? Thanks
