I have decided that I want to build a website using a Joomla template. The main reason I decided to use Joomla is that I can work on adding/modifying/deleting much of the content myself. For right now, I am looking for some help building the layout of the site. I know what I am looking for, just not sure how to organize it. I am not looking to spend a lot of money, but will be fair. From time to time I will need help with this and that.

Any recommendations?

Thanks,
Matt

I may consider Wordpress also, I am looking into it as I type.

I highly recommend Wordpress. We use it for all the sites we're building now because it's really flexible, it's well supported, and to be honest, the community of WP users is a lot more "non-geek" friendly than some of the other user communities.

I like the WP themes, and there's a TON of them out there.

I build websites with wordpress or joomla, it is up to the client which on he prefer, I like joomla I feel more comfortable coding on joomla than on WP, eventho WP has tons of themes, joomla community is HUGE and the templates are everywhere.

I would suggest if you are trying to build your own template in joomla, spend between $35 to$90 and buy a nice template so you can make some minor changes and have some nice design.

What I really like about WP is the quantity of resources you can find online.

Whatever you decide to use. it is a plus to build your website under a CMS.

Ive decided to go with Joomla. I just received a use manual in the mail today. I also got registered on the joomla.org forum. You can view my progress below. It still looks quite generiac. What I like most about it, once I have it where I want, I can always upgrade to a better looking template.
