I'm looking at intuit or a go daddy service. I need to get it up and running and I just don't have the budget to have a professional do it for me. Anyone with experience with either of these 2 or another do it yourself type? Thanks for your help in advance!!

I've been looking into the same thing. Was kind of leaning towards Go-daddy. They seem to have alot of templates to customize. Mainly just want to get something up and running before the season starts, then once we get some $$$, finesse it a little bit.
Interested to hear what others have to say also.

Looks good. Plain and simple, very straight forward. Picture switching was a little slow but it could be my laptop.
I liked it, not too much "show".

Looks good betterlawnsandlandscaping. slide show was a tad slow on my end as well. I like that you have your Facebook page attatched. The thing I hate about go daddy is that you have to sign up and pay before you can do anything. At least Intuit you can sign up and cancel after 30 days.

Thanks guys for the input on the pics. I will speed those up for sure. Intuit has worked good for me but they will call you sometimes trying to sell you other things. I try not to fall for all of their sales pitches. lol... Give it a try because you have nothing to lose on the 30 day free trial.

That could be the clincher! Go-daddy wants the money upfront, and they want you to pay for at LEAST 2 years.

When you put up your website you need to decide if you want something just as a reference site or both that and to be recognized by the search engines. If you want to be recognized by search engines, then your are going to want a dedicated IP address and I am not sure if those packaged deals come with that option. The reason you want a dedicated IP address is because when you are on a shared hosting, your ip address is shared also. You may have 100 people sharing the same ip address. If others are doing something to get penalized in search engine search results, you get penalized as well.

I have shared hosting with bluehost for $3.95 a month (for 3 years) and then a seperate ip address for $2.50 a month. I am using a program called Joomla. It is very easy to install and modify. I went through 1700 free templates before choosing one. If you look at my site, please be aware it's still under construction. You can have a 30 day free trial using joomla at www.cloudacess.net To install Joomla is free, as well as the thousands of modules and extensions. You have to know nothing about programming or code work to use it. Do you and your site a favor and check it out. Anything is better looking that website tonight and those intuit packages. Just my .02

Thanks walker-talker. And yes, I would want a dedicated IP, I dont want to share. That's one of the things I noticed. I will take a look at your site and joomia later this evening. I do know that Go-daddy has a dedicated IP though.
Thanks for the info, really appreciate it. And yes, by the way, I know NOTHING about website design, code, HTML, or what have you. I did learn a thing or two about meta tags though from someone else on.... you guessed it, LAWNSITE!!!

Spending time trying to do this website thing and checked out your website. I looked at both of the links in your post, and it appears your Home page picture is covering part of your writing. Also, your calendar still says December 2010.

And let me see if I understand this:
You pay for the hosting
You pay for the dedicated IP
AND
You will have to pay for the Joomia?

Thanks. Been doing alot of research, I've seen:
hostgator
Intuit
ixwebhosting
1and1
bluehost
networksolutions
justhost
(all dot coms) but it looks like go-daddy gets the thumbs up from what I'm seeing. Few minor changes here and there but they look good, reliable, customer service is awesome and uptime is generally above 95%

Thanks gasracer

Yes on the first two, but no to Joomla....it's free and most all it's modules and extensions. The best step it probably go to www.cloudaccess.net There they have some free and short video tutorials. They are about 5 min. each and around 12 of them. You can then create an account and and they will host a demo of joomla for you for 30 days. They are a specialized joomla host, but I did not use them...their like $10 a month. You can install any tempate and any module on there.

With Bluehost and many other hosting sites, you do not have to download joomla, they have it on their site already, you just have to install it. You can go to joomla24.com. There you can find around 1700 free website templates. You can always pay somebody to tweek a template for you.

You will find about any extension, module or plugin at joomla.org If you are wondering what those are, they're just an add on for example. Some of the ones I have include the mini calendar and weather forecast on my homepage. I also have many others you can't see. Some others include and robust html editor, image editor, xml site map generator, a form maker (you can see the forms on my website), a meta-tag/meta description tool, facebook & twitter icons and links, sign up for a newsletter and comes with newsletter templates and will do mass mailings for you. There are literally thousands of free ones and many commercial ones that cost money.

Let me know if you have any more quesitions. Go watch the videos, they will help a lot. Thanks for the heads up on the errors, not sure what is up with the calendar, but I will probably get a different one to just delete that one. I don't see where the pic is covering text, unless you are viewing on a phone. I know it's close, but I have two different computers and it looks ok. I will take a better look at it.

Walker-Talker, thanks for the info again. Will DEFINATELY check out the videos.

Not sure what's up with your site but there's a pic of a house, a few words to the RIGHT of the pic, (crammed in) and at the bottom of the pic it starts off with "shoes and stay awhile. In this day and age a lot of people just don't have time to do their own lawn care work. Some simply don't care to work in their lawn and that's ok also. That is where Progressive Lawn Care comes in"

Could be me, not sure, no I'm not on a laptop.

Anyhow, thanks for your help.

I have been reading this Website forum for a few weeks because I plan on building a website this off-season. I have been in business for many years but haven't felt the need for one before.

Many of you guys say you want your website to "look" professional but you don't seem to care that they don't "read" professional. The grammar and spelling on many of your websites is horrible. You have photos on your sites of higher-end properties which I assume means that is the market you are seeking.
If I were a businessman or attorney or doctor visiting your website I would reject you as being unprofessional based on your writing alone. No, I don't believe you need to know how to write in order to do good lawn care or landscaping. But, poor writing skills on your website does affect you.
My advice is to hire someone to edit the writing on your website just like you would hire an accountant or attorney for their expertise.

OK, go ahead. Blast me. Clobber me. Have at it.

Nothing to blast you for.. You are right about everything.
Before I had mine posted I had several very professional people check mine over and give me there thoughts. I am still open to improvements.

I agree with you, I pride myself on my grammar, spelling, punctuation, proper use of words etc. As long as your comments are well intentioned, as they appear to be, no one should "Blast you". We're all here to help each other and if we can't take constructive criticism, then we think we know it all and then we've already missed the boat.

You're probably talking about my website. Come back in a month and it will be more gooder...lol. Although beautiful, that girl has no early business being on my website. I put this site together in a couple weeks and is still has a ways to go. Actually, I would like to mow a lot of weed lawns. Seems like those people are the ones that pay the best and never complain, but obviously I cannot or should not put up a pic of a broken down house with nothing but weeds in the lawn. As far as the text goes, I am going to go through and re-write everything or hire a professional. I was never the best at english and I know that. When writing those pages I knew there were errors and planned on coming back to correct the wording. I was in a hurry to get "something" put together so that I would get recognized by the search engines. Now that is happening, I can go back and make the changes. Thanks.

Uhhhhhhh. Talking about your website? Well, uhhhhhhh. I mean uhhhhh.

Hey, I like that you mention your Walker. ( I have three currently.) Yeh, the girl doesn't look "real" although she is nice to look at.

Seriously, maybe you know some professional to edit it. Teacher? College student majoring in English? Newspaper editor or reporter?
In case you are wondering about my love of language. In a previous life, I was an English and Journalism major in college. Wrote for newspapers and worked in pro sports management. Yep, now I'm cutting grass, pruning shrubbery, sweeping curbs, and picking-up cigarette butts, and throwiing around compost. What a wonderful life!!
