for long drives going fast will trimmers roll around in the trimmer rack or get damaged?

I have trimmer traps. They don't really roll around, but the rack destroys the grips/handles. Get the extreme racks, most guys around here are getting them, they're way better.

Extreme Racks with the motor support. That is all you need to know.

I personally use Jungle Jims rack with a bungee cord stabilizing the trimmers (my stick edger doesn't spin because I have a brace its wheel rests against). If I did it over again though, I would have spent the extra dough and got an Extreme Rack...

but dosnt the metal blocks that connect get in the way while working?

No. You don't even notice they are there. There is no reason for a block on the shaft to get in the way... you shouldn't be rubbing on the shaft while working ;) If I didn't have the edger and the brace to stabilize it (and as a result the trimmer above it), I would have dumped my JJ for an Extreme already... buy the best the first time and you will save yourself money in the long run.

I had the same question/worry before I got my Xtreme racks, figured that block on the lower part of the handle would be catching on things... It's pretty much a non-issue. The blocks are aluminium, they are light, but they do have some weight to them. I actually weighed them on a scale, just because I was curious, but now I haven't a clue what they weighed, lol.

I had the Trimmer Trap rack before, and while I liked it overall I hated having my handle grips all destroyed and unless all your trimmers/edgers are the same brand, the one with the largest diameter grip sets the opening size for the other 2 places (if you can picture that) So in my case the edger was the largest, the rack held tight on it but because the trimmer grips were smaller in diameter they were loose and would rotate, which caused them more damage. With the xtreme rack it does not matter. Whatever position you lock the blocks onto the shaft at is where they stay.

Anyone have a pic of the xtreme racks with the engine support?

Here's a "drawing" from their website. This is actually the first time I've seen it as well...

I may be ordering that set-up for my rack. I've never had a problem but I've read of others that have had their shaft break right next to the bracket due to the weight of the motor.

To answer your question...Trimmer racks are useful only if you need the space in your truck bed for other things....other than that, don't worry about it.
