It sounds pretty cool, but when I went to download it, it said an hour and something to do, so, I left it, and left the office. When I returned, it said 3 hrs. and 33 min. left to download, so, at 9 p.m. now, I'll have to say perhaps another time. :(

Seth Able Robinson. He created the single most popular BBS door game LORD (Legend Of The Red Dragon). For those of you who don't know or are too young to remember, the Internet hasn't always been popular. Before the graphical user interface (Internet Explorer, Netscape etc.), the Internet was harder to use. You needed to know how to use and do things like Gopher, ftp and ping.

So for fun and as a way to exchange info between like minded individuals, some people set up bbs' (bulletin board service) on their home computers. To give you an idea of what a bbs is this website is a basic bbs that is set up on the Internet. So you had groups of people calling into one guy's bbs on his home computer.

After a while someone came up with the idea of making text games that you can play on bbs'. That's what a door game is, a text based game you can play on a bbs.

LORD is a door game that is set in the dark ages. You can get gold, weapons, armor, drink at the pub and ultimately, slay the Red Dragon.

Eventually the game was networked between different bbs' and huge tournaments were carried on. There were probably over a half million people playing the game at one time. But then the Internet got easy to use and people decided they would rather surf then push keys on a keyboard and bbs' are all but forgotten now.

I even had a popular, award winning LORD links webpage. It is still up and working although no-one hardly ever visits it anymore. Most of the links on it are dead now. It can be found at http://members.aol.com/rmartin631/darklair
