Please vote . I am Trying to decide what kind of trailer to go with . I have done a search and am leaning toward enclosed. What kind are the majority using? Thanks:blob3:

Mine is open. The poll doesn't work.

My trailer is open, but I only do this part time and have a large, 2car/2 story, garage to store everything. If I was full-time, I would consider an enclosed mainly for the convinence of not having to take of trailer nightly. Other benefits would be shelter from the weather and thieves. I see an application for the use of both.

we have 5 open and 1 enclosed. use the enclosed for irrigation durring season and Ice melt in winter. Pulling with (2) 1 tons (1) 3/4 tons and 2 half tons. We have a 60 x40 shop and unload for maintenance each night anyway.

If your trying to decide by using a poll you should have asked "what kind of trailer would you buy" Not what kind do you have.
I have an open trailer but if I had the money and space I would prefer an enclosed one.
See what I mean.

I ve got open but want a dual axle enclosed. Guy down the street has a 16*8 trailer and made all his racks man that is so sweet. Next time he brings it home I;ll take a pic if i can. He built shelves in the front exactly to fit all equipment, custom trimmer racks etc very nice. Next trailer will def. be enclosed.

More and more your "stuff" will turn up missing in an open trailer. I currently have a 16 ft open behind a F250 powerstroke. When I can afford it I WILL have an enclosed. Also after this year of the equipment getting wet every other day I am considering it even if I can't afford it.

i use an 8 by 14 enclosed.
This topic has been discussed many, MANY times before. All with differing opinions. While all I've ever had was open trailers, I really think an enclosed would hinder the way "I" do things.
Here's why....
PRICE.....Dont need to explain much here.
I live in a very LOW crime area. Never really worry about trailer/truck and contents when I'm "down the block" mowing in a back yard. So therefore, the security during the day isn't a benefit.
I park my trailer nightly in my 2 car garage. Back in, unhitch, and pull out. An enclosed trailer WOULD NOT fit inside my current garage, and I wouldn't want my neighbors/borough inspectors looking at a big trailer parked in my driveway. So therefore night-time outdoor storage isn't a problem.
Also, I feel that its way easier at the gas station with an open trailer. None of the "Gas station RODEO's" for me. Pull up, and I can gas everything without moving a thing.
Another benefit of an open trailer is the ease of grabbing the tools that you need without walking to the back and opening up a door or two. Grab, and GO!! Open are easier to pull, and you can "see" through them, therefore easier to back up.
So, thats the way that I feel, and why I feel that way.
However, if I had security problems, or a lack of a garage, I'd have an enclosed trailer for SURE! Wouldn't think twice.
Just wanted to bring these ideas to the table.

we have open, but have a shop for storage. Price and easy to drive was the reasoning.
i think the gassing up prob is overated. i have an open but still fill the cherries instead of the machine. we use WB's, i realize that a Z may be MUCH easier to fill directly. but still, i can't fill the truck and the WB from the same pump without moving the truck. to use two pumps, i need to do the whole pay as you pump processs twice. easier to fill cherries.
not that it matters, but around my area VERY rare to see enclosed.
i guess that is a plus for enclosed, the few i see REALLY stand out well.

to put your open trailer in the garage.
Just as long as you simply pull your truck forward without turning, when you go to hitch up in the AM all you have to do is open the garage door and back straight up to your stop marks. (Make stop marks at your truck's rear wheels or just use the transition point where your concrete slab ends.
My four setups so far have been:
1)16x7 open 2-axle trailer. (too big)
2)12x7 open 1-axle trailer. (too small)
3)18x8 enclosed 2-axle trailer. (way too big- really hated it)
4)16x8 Mitsubishi-Fuso straight truck (love it...never going back)
The winner is:

If you have a place to put it, open. I think Tom pretty much summed it up the best. Especially the part about how nice it is to just walk up and grab something OFF the traler without having to go in. As far as security goes, if they want in bad enough, they'll get in. Do you own your house, or just renting? One thing to consider, is that you can almost build a gareage for the cost of a decent enclosed.

This poll will show more "own" open trailers, not sure how that will help you make up your mind. Ask how many would like an enclosed if the finances were there and you may get a better idea. I have both and the enclosed is much better. I pull mine witha 99 Ford F250 diesel.

We use both. 7x14, 8x18, 8x23 open and 8x20 enclosed.I like the enclosed because we have a "shop on wheels" with spare parts and tools on hand all the time. It's also a great "billboard" for advertising, and no unloading at the end of the day. It all depends on your budget, if you need additional storage space, if you have a problem with theft, etc.
Good Luck!

Very nice trailer BUT you gotta' hook up with Cochise over at FD.com!
Trade in that 99!:D ;)
(Green Giant;) )
Wait until those new 6.0's come out.
BTW....6.5 by 18 open here. Would rather have the enclosed at this point. Too much rain this summer.

Just messing with ya' Ray.:D
I love that trailer of yours. I saw the 99 in your sig. and was hinting that you need to get a new ride to pull that sharp looking trailer.:p (I know you have a nice PSD now)
Not standing in line to get the 6.0 when it comes out? I'm going to wait a few years myself to ride out the "bugs and kinks" phase.

I like my trailer but I would like to have an enclosed also. One good thing about an open type is you can beat em around a little more without it showing. But an enclosed is much classier looking. More secure I would think.:)

6X10 open here. I've yet to try out my rack system, it's on order and isn't here yet. I'll get some pics of it when it's all done. I built my own EZ-Gate for it for $15, not bad, eh? Better than $170

Thanks guys for all your replies . I am going to get an 6*12 enclosed. Yes I know it is smaller than I really should have but that is about as far as the money is going right now. I need enclosed because I have no place to store my equipment.
I also will need the free advertising space:) . Do any of you have pics of the inside of your 6*12 enclosed trailers with two 48" w\bs? I know I am asking for a lot but I am just curious how you guys do it. Thanks.
