How do you wash your mowers?
I blow them off daily. Then about once a month we scrub them down with a power washer and a sponge or scrub brush.
Is there any soap that works well to get that nasty grass stain off the front of the deck? I found a car wash for tar removal that worked OK at wal-mart.

westley's white wall cleaner for tires do's a great job but you should add some water to it because at full strength it can dull your paint.

i use easy-off oven cleaner on decks, it works excellent!!!
spray on dry deck, let sit 5 minutes, wash off....
test it first, some decks aren't powder coated, or use cheap paint, ie. john deere, and it'll fade.
for the rest of the mower, i use mean machine cleaner/degreaser from dollar general stores, cheap and effective!

"Greased Lightning"
Use it full strength with a non-abrasive scrub pad. Works great.

Simple green, scrub brush and garden hose works for us. Becareful with a power washer around engine/electrical and bearing/seal areas because of the high pressure.

We use our power washer with a cleaner/degreaser twice a week...I like our equipment looking nice. And our customers notice it as well.
Trucks all get washed each weekend as well.

To many members emailing me asking me to remove this piece of advice. Seems very dangerous.

I use Super Clean! It works good if spray it on while the mower are 2 stoke equipment is dry.
Im not sure I would use lighter fluid:eek: WD-40 should work just as good.

I started using this last year. It just melts that brown build-up on the mower right off. WalMart carries it.

Pressure washer, scrub brush, liquid car wash soap-no particular brand.
But now with water restrictions cant use the presure washer so have to go to car wash.
Kind of like rounding up the kiddies to go to the pool once a week.

We use tub and tile cleaner right out of the grocery store - spray on - let sit - wipe off. Works for ushttp://36X-flexed

The "Greased Lightning" is pretty easy on the paint too. Not that after two years of age the finish matters but it's "a good thing". :D

we use a product from rhomar industies called Ex-cell. Itss not cheap but it does a superb job. Spay it on and rinse it off with a garden hose. They also make a road oil remover (rhoma-sol)that can't be matched. It works the same way as the Ex-cell.

FYI---Before you go crazy with power washers, at least if you own an exmark, READ YOUR MANUAL, they suggest you not use water on your machine too much, can cause premature wear and electrical problems. They suggest blowing the machine off and very limited washing's. Quote "You won't have the cleanest machine, but it will last longer" Just some friendly advice.

Flex-Deck,
Nice photo. It looks like that cleaner does a great job on the Hydro pumps. Do you have any photos of the front deck area so we can see how well it cleans that?
Thanks!;)

Flex Deck - I don't know, but it looks like tub and tile cleaner you're using stripped the small deck on the left of your machine down to the gray primer.:D
BTW, it looks like that little deck would be great for trimming, for mowing ditches, and add to your mowing width at the same time.

I just take it out in the rain. Seems like I have a great opportunity today.
I only use air to blow everything off unless I am oputting it away for the winter. Then I use the pressure washer very cautiously.
Is Brad plugging that cool looking Flex-Deck AGAIN????:D ;) :D
Just kiddin.

I use a product called Oil Eater. Just spray full strength, let set for a couple or mintues, power wash off.
It really does the job and is not harmful to the enviroment....
You can go to oileater.com (http://oileater.com)

the mowers get blown off after EVERY job. you never know who your going to pass going down the road. during heavy growing season we powerwash 2 times a week, and scrub them down with purple muscle once a week to once every other week. ill have to check out the "spray on, wipe off" method you guys are talking about. sounds like a good way to cut another " financial corner" good for me!! lol

Castrol Super Clean on my DC. This stuff has removed paint on other things, so be careful.
The only thing wrong with using it on my Chopper is when other Chopper owners pull up beside you, they are always asking me........ "Do you have any Grey Poupon"? :)
