Hey Greg, It would appear that we have something in common...

LOL Yeah Richard, they have a shop in Waldorf too. Never been to that one. I had a issue with the tires on the new trailer. I got it home and a day or so later I noticed both tires had dry rot between the treads. I had to pitch a bitc.h before they finally just took a pair of wheels and tires off another trailer and installed them on my trailer. The guy wanted to submit a claim to the manufacturer and make me wait until they decided to do something. Meanwhile I'm pulling the trailer around with my equipment on dry rotted tires! Screw that. I TOLD him to either replace the tires NOW while I'm here after driving 30 miles one way or you can just refund my purchase in full and keep the trailer. 10 minutes later he had a guy peeling the wheel/tires off the other trailer. :) I bought the trailer on a whim and later found a better deal. I should have shopped around first but my other trailer had a bearing failure and destroyed one of the spindles while I was on my route. They were open and I needed something quick. Oh well, it's been good so far.

Greg78, what's the load capacity on that trailer? It looks like you have it maxed out.

I don't recall exactly what it is but I am about 200 LBS under the limit as you see it in the picture.

On a normal day the walk behind would be with me on the other trailer and the zero turn would be turned around facing forwards.

Oh OK, just wondering.

I'd like to weight my complete rig one time. There's a Southern States near one of my stops that has a outside scale for weighting in trucks with chemicals and grain. I need to sneak up there one evening after they close and pull up on it. It's always on.

I have went through the scales where we dump debris a couple of times, don't remember the weights, it was more than I thought it would be though.

Just went and looked.

Curb Weight: 602
GVWR: (lbs) 3500
Payload Capacity: (AVG) (lbs) 2898.

I'm gonna add up what I have on there and see how close I am as it sits now.

Believe it or not it's not unusual to buy a new trailer with used tires. The Hitch Man already charges premium prices for his trailers (despite the fact that they're the same as anybody else's trailers) and you'd think that they would come with new tires but...

Mine came with new tires but they didn't last long before they dryrotted and I replaced them with Goodyear Marathons. My trailer came from The Hitch Man too.

Nope. It looks good. Everything is there. Chains, latch pin, breakaway lanyard and electrical cable. The only thing that makes me a little nervous is the way you have the breakaway lanyard through the cable and chains.

ALC-GregH
01-13-2011, 09:14 PM
All I see is a 4way flat plug for lights. Where's the 6 or 7 way with the electric brake feed?

TNGrassCutter

The chains go under the cable and the plug is beside the cable. And it is a round 7 way plug and you can see the breakaway box inside the rail

Grey, after Robert read through all the BS he has been throwing around. He's finally calling him out. Robert has a firm grip on his company and is a larger scale lawn company unlike you or me. I've learned to ignore a lot of the BS on here. If I didn't, I wouldn't be here!

exmark user
01-15-2011, 10:18 AM
I took them of the 5x8 and put them on the trailer I sold. I took off the blower rack but left on the weedeater racks because it were slow (it was from lowes). But this trailer has a weedeater rack on it and a shovel tube. Im going to put my blower rack on it soon and hopefully a v nose diamond plate fuel pump.

ALC-GregH
01-15-2011, 10:23 AM
Robert, thanks. Yes the latch pins are spring loaded. They are the same as the ones on the back gate. They sell them at the trailer shop I bought the trailer from. I think I paid $9 a piece. They come raw metal so obviously I painted them and the gate. The side gate is only 4x4ft square so I didn't bother with a lift assist. I'm solo as you may already know. That's the reason for a single axle. It allows me to get into tighter areas and it's much easier to turn around. That and it actually saves on fuel, less weight and no tire scuffing. If I had 2 guys working for me I'd definitely have a dual axle trailer. Well I'd NEED a dual axle trailer.

greenstar were you talking about my trailer? If so the trailer is a beast empty :laugh: There is no bounce with bumps on the roads. I have towed it on I-95 doing 80 before and no sway it tracks very well. The only thing is because of the cage it is tounge heavy and i do feel it behind my 250 i would not want to pull it with a 150. The trailer is very good handling with and with out the breaks on it. Although because it is a heavy trailer having the breaks is a nice added security and just helps when the truck is loaded, and the trailer is also.

I just feel it would be easier to go possibly 2 weeks with out having to go to the gas station.I plan on buying another used turf tracer and 48 lazer z and either a 26'' or 36 '' walkbehind.Last year I constantly was going to the gas station!

Thats what happens when you only put $5 in each time...

Do you have to have a permit to carry large amounts of fuel?

I believe if its under a certain amount and not for resale. Not sure what that amount is but it's no where close to what any landscaper would need.

BTW, skip the fuel tank. If your solo or solo + 1 carry a 5 gallon and a 2.5 gallon for mix. I don't even carry a 5 gallon for straight fuel. I just fill up the equipment as needed.

I believe it's only beneficial if you hedge fuel and store it yourself (thats another story).

Buying in bulk on the future's markets. For example, you can buy fuel at today's price in bulk (i.e 10K gallons) and sell it in a week at it's future price wether it's higher or lower and profit or loss on the margin. Airlines do this but seriously it's out of many peoples reach on here.

Another option is to find a co-op and buy fuel from them. I've heard it about 10 cents cheaper but i may be wrong.

I would love to hear what some of the million $$ plus landscape contractor do for buying fuel. Don't what to hi-jack your thread but chime in on this.

I used to mail them out in the spring and get about half back. I've only got burned once where I never got paid.I really don't think having a service agreement would have helped. So no I don't use them, this will be my 6th season.

Yeah, I had to make a seperate bracket to help support and also lock it down by the ramp. I don't use it to much, but when I need it I like having one. I try to have a well rounde business.

Don't waste your time with resi's & service agreement. Give them a product they can't get anywhere else and they will be loyal.

I believe getting them to sign a document scares them, i've thought about sending out service commitment documents run into the same quandary about signatures or not. I decided against them and choose wise on customer base.

I leave them with a product they can't get anywhere else.
