St. Andrews Old Course & Fungicides

Hello All,

Just back from Scotland. Spoke with several Superintendants. No fungicides!

18 years of at the Royal & Ancient Old Course & never a single fungicide.

Fairways are mostly fecues (chewings?) & very little bent or poa.

Liquid Ammonium Sulphate up to twice per year & that's it. Then with all the rain, mow, mow, & mow.

Fairly limited herbicide use too though plenty of targets!

I found this very interesting.

steve. sounds like a great trip...very interesting to see how other parts of the world handle and manage turf...

DUH !

Why do you think golf started there?

Soil and weather patterns offer NATURAL grass growth.

Few places in the US is grass a native species.

Of course they're not going to need the turf application products we do here.
