I have a 1999 F250 2WD with a 7.3L & 6spd Manual Trans. As most my oil pan has a lot of rust on it. I want to replace it before the spring. I talked to one mechanic he said you have to pull the motor all the way out. In the Hayes Manual for the truck it says see "remove engine" section. I have a good friend that works on these trucks and I am wondering what kind of project this is going to be. He does not have tons of time on his hands and if you have to pull the motor I will take it to a shop instead of making his life miserable, even though he will yell at me.
Sorry for my story but heres the questions:

Do you still have to remove the engine being its 2wd?
Does anyone have experiance with this job to know approximate time it will take? (with professional shop, air tools, lift, etc.)
Does anyone have any tips to help make this go smoother?
Should I shoot my self now?:)

What area are you in ? Yes you have to pull the engine to do the pan on a 7.3.

Lot of shops are cutting the crossmember out and fishplateing it back after the pan is swaped out. Have a couple friends that have had it done...Saves lots of $$$

Do a search of one of the ford sites...Lots of info on there

Everything I have heard the motor has to come out. My dump is going to need one but it aint getting it until it starts to leak.
