Are internet courses effective?

I am currently taking a landscape design course over the internet from PCDI (proffessional career development institute) i'm only 18 but could'nt find any local colleges with training in this area. i've already established a business and can't bear to leave and start over again. are courses over the internet going to give me reqiured training to be a proffessional landscape designer?.

I've looked at a couple of these courses to. Some offer a wide rabge of info. I would also be interested to hear from any one with experience taking any "at home" landscaping courses. Harcourt Direct, Professioal Career Development Institute are two I have looked at.
