F800

Looking for opinion on a 1985 f800. Truck has the cat 3208 diesel engine. The truck is a retired local fire company truck. It is in near perfect condition with 27,000 miles. They want about five grand for it.
I plan on putting a flatbed on it, and mounting a 550 gallon sealcoating tank on it.

Pros:
Its in great shape with low miles.

Cons:
Its old, and I have heard some negative things about the cat 3208 engine.

Being a old fire truck see if it has the heavier duty frame on it.

see what kind of brake system is on it. I bought a 93 f600 dump last year with a cummins in it and had to replace a brake cylinder and parking brake cylinder on the back wheel and with the shoes just for that side the total ran near a grand. I think it is girling brakes? I would have still bought the truck just be prepared. What can be small issuses cost big on big trucks

Cat 3208 is a very weak engine. it will get you there just not in any hurry.
