I need new trimmers and not sure what to buy. I have shindy 231 trimmers but need to be replaced. I bought a 242 and is ok but not as good as the 231and even though ive not had many problems with 242 like everyone else, im still not really impressed. My dealer has kawasaki, shindy, echo. I have thought about other brands redmax, stihl. I did buy a Husqvarna 4 stroke almost new for $100 from somebody getn out, but havent logged time on it yet but seems good. leaning toward Echo though for good dealer support. Any input helpful.

I'd go redmax GZ25N. On another note..Some don't agree...but I take off the guard

if we could only bring back the 231's, life would be good.

Echo srm-230's are the older technology, not the new emissions junk. My good friend works for echo and he thinks those are the best.

Thats the one my dealer recommended. I wonder if they will discontinue it anytime soon. I would like to find a model that will be around for a while. I am lookin to buy some now and next season and want the same models.

I will miss my 231's. I want to find something as good as they were. Maybe those days are gone with all the emissions crap.

When I bought my trimmer from Wise Sales, they added a $10 insurance charge to the bill. This was never discussed with me when I placed my order.

If you're not hung up on brands like me then try out something from redmax, they are light and tach up fast. I just bought a new FS100RX and hope it does as good as my FS130R but lighter.

I hear everyone talk about redmax trimmers. Maybe i will try one of those. I know they have some that are really light. Anyone have the 9.5 lb redmax? Had any emissions problems? Are they way underpowered?

Man I must be doing something wrong, when I go on wisesales I can't seem to find prices on ECHO stuff. Whats the deal? I'm thinking of getting one of those PAS-265 combi trimmers but I want to do more searching around on them.

Echo doesn't allow online sales.

I used to use echo trimmers, but I felt like they kinda went downhill in the last 10 years. Echo is still good, but just not as good IMO.

I switched to stihl about 4 years ago and loved them. I use FS 55R trimmers. They are the bottom of the totem pole for commercial stihl trimmers but they are light and almost bulletproof. I still have the original one I bought four years ago.

That was my first trimmer also, it has now been converted to a tiller. The guys at the garden center said that the engine wasn't stong enough to run it but a year later and it still runs strong. I use it to till in old mulch during bed prep and to mix soil admendments when putting out new plants. It takes about 30 seconds to mix half a wheel barrow of soil and a bag of Natures Helper. I thought about using it to mix cement last fall when putting a fence up in the back yard but figured I would never be able to get it all cleaned off.

been using the one i have for a few years now...never had any problems..cranks first pull every time even after sitting all winter...main reason i got it was to stop mixing gas and oil...it is a little heavier than a 2 stroke trimmer but you get used to it..works great

I would not want another 231 if they were giving them away!!! A 230 sure, I will take that in a heart beat.

Husqvarna owns redmax but not all of the equipment is the same. They also own poulan, so it is sometimes a good thing they are not the same:laugh:
