I am looking at buying a 1988 Chevy 1 ton pick-up. Basically it will be a work truck for hauling my equipment and putting a dump insert into. Any one no of any issues with the Chevys of this age. It has 210K mi (yes high) but has had a new factory GM motor and transmission put in around 85 K mi ago. All service records are available and current. Has the 5.7 V8. In good shape no rust, never plowed. Asking $3500 with extra rims and new Goodyears. I am going to offer $2500 w/o rims and tires.:confused:

Offer $2500 with the rims and tires. He might do it.
My brother used to work for an out fit that bought a 1988 3/4 ton new. His biggest complaint was the 4x4 engagment system was a bunch of trash.
The 350 is a good motor.
Is that 88 a single wheeled chassis or a dualie? If it's a single I have the twin to it. The GVW is a bit light for a 3500 series, only 8600 lbs. Sometime later they changed that GVW into the 2500HD. In addition to the lighter GVW it runs a semi-floating rear axle as opposed to the the full-floater that the dualie uses. It also has smaller brakes than the dualie axle. If yo can get it for $2500 it has the potential to be a good heavy use pickup though, and without the clumsy, wider track of the dualies

Thanks guys. The truck isn't a dually. I took it to my mechanic this morning he spent about an hour and a half looking it over. No major problems to worry about, a couple little things. I think I'm going to shoot for $2200 without rims and tires. The tires are low profile and wide so they will be **** in the winter, I might put a plow on it for a back up. I'll let you know what happens!!! Thanks again.:)

i've got a 1988 chevy dually. crew cab. everything is "ok" except for the 454 gas guzzling engine. good luke!!!

He called me yeaterday and no one could come up with the money. Got it for $2250 with the rims and tires. Going to register it now!!! :blob4:

Those are famous for fuel lines rotting. Usually right at the sending unit on the tank. Which usually leads to about $450 in parts only to repair. Not surte what labor. Probably around $650 usually you have to replace the lines, sending unit and the tank while its out and too rusty.
