how do you build up the sides on your beds?

we've got a nice 8 foot bed and want to build up the side a foot or two on the front and sides. how do you guys attach the boards to the truck bed?

all my trucks have stake pockets in the bed rails from the factory so we have always built them into the stake pockets.
