Got a job where we need to put in a driveway.

Demensions are:

195' long by 9' wide
and have a 30' by 40' turn around spot ( In front of garage)

Excavate 8'' of soil and replace with aspahlt millings.

Hauling all material off costs $300 a truck. It will take 7 trucks to haul (tandems)

Millings will cost $450 a load and delivery. We will need 6 trucks

And charging $60 a hour for SSL

And the total came to $7500.

Is it just me or does this seem high?

Thats reasonable. Its about 3000 sq ft of driveway, so sounds about right to me.

driveway seems really narrow at 9' any reason for that?

Pricing seems about right but would add some more in for overage

With your numbers, that price seems about right, but why so much on trucking off the excavated soil? $300 a load is a lot. Is the dump site expensive/far away?

Dump site is about 30 minutes from site.

9' driveway is narrow? Average around here is 8'.

Seeems a little high, and if it is topsoil coming out, you could probably swap materials inbound.

Im not in your area, but I could do this for 1/2 and still make money. Your trucking number is crazy high. Tandems are $60 an hour here, so $500 tops for hauling the top soil off. Pile the top in your yard, and re sell for $200 a tandem load. Thats $1200 you are giving away right there. Millings are high as well. A 16 ton load of CA6 is about $275.

My dad has a friend that owed him a favor so he took $100 off the millings so we are at $6900.

Wow, I would be pricing trucking at other companies. $300 is a major rip off to me. That tandem will charge you $2100 for a easy day of work. I would look into buying your own truck if this is the norm and you do this alot. I can hire a tandem for $480 for 8 hours.

And they will turn arround and sell the 6 loads of topsoil and make another $1200 easy if not more. So they are looking at making $3300 for the day off of you, minus $200 fuel, and paying the driver.

that milling number is high, I can almost guarantee they are getting the millings for free...so turning around and selling for $300 plus delivery is all profit

I pay 6.50 a ton here for millings, picked up. Tandems also go for about 60-65 an hour. Tri-axles 70-75 an hour. As was said, sell the topsoil and that's really high on the trucking. I could never sell a job like that around here at that price. Good luck, and good for ya if you get it.
