I have a rear lawn that is on a slight hill. the top layer is sandy and the perimeter of the lawn has all pine trees. As of right now there is absolutely no grass. I need to know if I should till the roil before I bring in new loam and also how thick I should bring in soil. Thanks

I would till first, bring soil in, and then till the new soil in. I would also do a soil test to see home much lime you need.

Since it is sand and you are being paid, you can probably get by with just tilling the topsoil in rathr than a pretill. just be sure that you are getting a heavy loam to mix with you sand, otherwise you may as well just mix in the compost. But I'm sure you knew that already... :)

Well the way it is. Its a newer home a few yrs old and when built there was loam brought in. It has gone to **** and it looks like dry sand on top if you dig it an inch it looks like pretty good soil. I need to know if I should till it forst of bring in the 4-6 inches of new soil and leave it be.
