A customer of mine requires a tree screen preferably evergreen to block his view to a natural gas well. The screen will be 125 ft - 170ft long, I priced hybrid poplars (not evergreens) from musser forests at 3-5ft @ around $3 a tree. Upon thinking, the customer lives rural with many deer around, Now i do not want to feed the deer dessert. And My next trees i thought of were norway spruce 6-7 ft tall @ $50 a tree. Any other ideas or recommondations? LAyout is as follows Open area no powerlines, gas or water lines ,septic would be at least 100ft away, house would be around 60ft away. Looking for a fast growing deer resistant tree.

Spruce is about your best bet and they will get large, so plant 12-15 feet apart and perhaps stagger 2 rows. Seems expensive though, even @ 7'...

How do you figure expensive, 50 a tree from a wholesale company? what would you pay for one in your area 6-7 ft trees.

Arbor vitae (cedar) are dense and evergreen. But like you said--deer can browse on them in severe winters. Hopefully the oil company is paying.

Deer will sometime eat Norway Spruce in high deer areas. It is rare that they will eat Colorado Spruce.

An alternative choice is plant arborvitae and then get the owner to pay you to spray deer repellent each fall to keep them from getting eaten in the winter. Recurring revenue.

how does $50 / spruce 6'-7' sound expensive, that sounds way too low imo. I couldnt get them wholesale for that around here

We have a lot of tree farms around here. Haven't looked lately but for $50 you could get Technys almost that size...
