View Full Version : best for hills

I have about one acre of nothing but hills.
There is an embankment pond that is close to 45 degrees.
My question is which model would be recommended for this.
Also would the rear discharge give more ground clearance and are atv type tires an option.
Perhaps a stander is not my best option possibly a Steiner would be better?

The regular Stander is likely your best option, they also seem to be the most reliable. I tested a ZK and it also did quite well on hills, and the new Stander X looks like a dramatic improvement over the Stander RH "which I own" that has very poor hill holding ability.

Andyshine is correct we do have models that are better than others on the slopes, the concern is 45 degrees is very steep and we wouldn't recommend a mower for that type of slope. Also oil starvation in the engine has to be considered depending on how long the slope is, the Steiner is likely set up to handle that so there is no oil starvation. Our rear discharge are essentially the same ground clearance as or side dicharge and users have put AG tires on our mowers but we don't have specific fitments.

I agree it is very steep however I am still thinking about a stander it would be ideal for my needs. From what ive seen they handle hills very well with the right operator.
Check out tosaerba wright on you tube. they have six videos were they beat the hell out of the mower. What i am mowing is nothing compaired to this. My longest hill is about 50 yards with a 20 degree slope but i have many short hills that are steeper.
The steepest is only 15 feet tall but 40 to 45 degrees.
I have been looking for a used steiner for over a year now and i just ran across the videos of the wright mower if i had known of there capabilities a year ago i would have forgoten about the steiner
You guys should build one for rough severe duty with a pressurized lube system

I was thinking fixed deck 48 inch with the biggest engine still dont know weather the rear discharge would be better?
Thanks for your time

Goats. They work cheap.

If I had to rank hill holding on our Stander line the ZK would be first followed by the 48"-61" fixed deck and X. Our Sentar (sit or stand) model if you can find one (discountinued this year) fell in between the ZK and the others.
