every morning i have to walk across wet lawns, and every morning i get pissed because my my feet are soaking wet. what's the best way to keep your feet dry? i was thinking some irrigation boots would work, but they are incredibly uncomfortable. atleast the ones i've ever owned.

get some 100% waterproof leather hiking type boots. i bought a pair at target for $30 and they keep me dry in heavy dew or puddles.
I just bought a pair of Redwing Muscle shoes. They're waterproof(I think have a goretex lining), steel toed, extremely comfortable, look good, oh and yes they are a little expensive.... but worth it to me.

I will second the Redwing. They make a great boot and the Gortex liner will keep your feet dry. I believe in steel toes to but that is just me. They cost quite a bit but they last for a long time...You get what you pay for!

My Georgia boots are water resistant but, after a while the wetness will seek through. Bought some rubber boots. Was real surprised how comfortable they are.

There are several steel toed waterproof hiking boots to choose from. Redwings are nice, but make yourself go try some different ones out. The gore-tex lining is important. Make sure they're comfortable. Once you find some you like, you'll wear them alot and any expense will be justified. Good luck.

I have a pair of Timberland Pro steel toe work boots. They do an excellent job of keeping my feet dry. I always where them when it's wet.
During the summer when it's dry I sometimes wear tennis shoes as they are a tad bit more comfortable.
I had the Timberland Pros also....after a few weeks, water soaked through.(Even after siliconing them.) I have yet to find a good waterproof boot. Who carries the Redwings??

I just purchased waterproof socks. Cuz my boots were waterproof but not now. Found them at www.amleo.com
They are Seal Skinz. Comfortable and they work.
In wet weather I wear a pair of 10" Bean Boots by LL Bean. I like the insulated ones, more comfortable. BUT, they are NOT safe around mowers. They don't come with steel toes.

Red Wing "Muscle Shoe" Light weight, waterproof, comfortable, durable.
Great shoe(boot). Worth the price tag.
Problem is......................they can't keep them on the shelves, back ordered for a while. I've got the black pair and the brown is on back order.

I seem to go thru several pairs of boots every year. the best I have yet to find are the redwing steel toe '' muscle'' boots with a healthy coating of sno seal. this is a beeswax based waterproofer that I have had great luck with. anything you can do to make yourself more comfortable is a good investment

I have some cheap brand of Gortex lined boots, called "Hitech" they have lasted all season, since like Feb. 2002 and they've got at least another 6 months left in them. I got them on sale at Sports Authority for like $29.95. Gortex is the waterproof KING!
Thats the way I buy all my work clothes. Summer stuff goes on sale in September/October I go buy a dozen t-shirts for like $2.99 each at A & N. Winter clothes goes on sale in January/Febuary and I go buy up long sleeves, turtlenecks, sweaters, sweats etc.

Plastic bags tied around your ankles might work.:D
I would think that as long as your not walking through standing water, that just a good pair of boots would do. I wear Timberland casual boot. They're not waterproof but I don't had a problem with the dew.

I don't like Goretex boots for warm weather. I don't care what they say, they don't breathe well at all. It's like wearing a plastic bag on your feet. My feet end up getting wet from the inside instead of the outside, and staying that way. Without the Goretex liner, at least they'll dry out later in the day.
Have you tried waterproofing your shoes/boots. For leather I use Snow Seal brand bees wax. On fabric, silicone spray works. You need to re-apply periodically.

I guess I use a different approach.
When its wet I put on a pair of low rubber over shoes that slipp right over my leather work boots. We call them rubbers around here. I got them at Tractor Supply for about $12. I also have a pair of 12 in high ones for the realy deep stuff or when spraying.

Ryan - You may want to try piercing the blister near the edge, draining it, and putting on some Second Skin or other gel-type covering. You'll probably have to tape in on with athletic tape to get it to stay.
If you're getting heel blisters, your boots are probably too big or were too loose. You can try wearing a second pair of socks. Nylon or silk liner socks under your other pair will help a lot.

My former employer S.C.Johnson bought us a new pair of Redwings every year. I worked for their pest elimination division. The Redwing dealer would take the new boots and oil them up to be waterproof. The oil would seep through slightly for a few days but after that, they were completely dry and no oil on the socks. This prevented liquid pesticides from soaking into the boots. I'm sure there are other great boots out there but, Redwings have been great for me.
Who carries the Redwings??
KenH,
Just look up Redwing in your white pages. As far as I know, Redwings are only sold by Redwing dealers.

Mayber your wearing insulated boots. I've never had an issue with GoreTex, maybe insulation. Believe me, it get hot in Texas and I wouldn't wear boots with GoreTex if my feet didn't stay dry everyday. My clothes might be wet, but my feet are always dry.

TurfGuy - Nope, not insulated. I've just got sweaty feet.

HarryD,
That's what these new Redwing Muscle shoes are. They kinda look like a cross between a sneaker and a hiking boot.

I have waterproof hiking boots I use only for hiking, but after each outing the leather needs to be conditioned. I use Nikwax. It conditions the leather and makes the leather waterproof. It will probably stay on for about a week in this business. It is really neat, after it is put on the water just beads off. If you walk through a lot of puddles it will wear off faster but still worth trying. It can be bought online at REI.com. Hope its okay to post this since they are not a sponsor.
