Do you guys pick up the plugs after you aerate? On smaller jobs I have the crew pick them up, but we just got a contract to aerate 43 acres and I am curious since the job is so big should I pick up the plugs or not and how it would look on a job that big. Thanks fellas.

No way. Leave em unless your asked to clean them up on small jobs then charge extra. I never have in 20 years, they dissapear after a few mows anyway.

Pick them up and put them back in the holes on the other side of the yard......Evens out the soil content.......:dizzy:

The only people that should pick up cores are golf courses in certain areas for obvious reasone. The cores themselves break down and the microbial action actually accellerates the thatch breakdown. Use that for the customer who wants you to work for no reason.

Some web site I was reading this week did actually suggest picking up the plugs. Something about if you are top dressing with good organic material and the original soil is so bad you ought to remove the plugs.... However, for all the reasons given above, its probably good to leave them and crazy to consider trying to remove them, except they sort of look like dog deposits for a while.

If you are mowing the place too, do it before you mow. You'll never really see them. I did my lawn a few weeks ago and the plugs are about gone. I use a Blue Bird 36in pull behind.

One of the lawns we mow just got aerated by a Ryan 3 wheeled machine that pulled around 9-10 plugs per square foot. I would not want to know how long it would take to pick up every core. After one week almost gone, naturally.

I just blow them off the sidewalks, driveway, etc.
But picking them up like off the lawn is a little excessive dont you think?
