New to me mower, went to grease up all the grease nipples and not one of them will take grease...I took one off, cleaned and put it back in and it still wouldn't take grease????

Do I need a special adapter or just need to grease fittings?

what brand of mower? I have ran into metric zerk before. Some tips are also adjustable.

Keep pressure on the hose against the zerk it may just be stopped up.

Take the zerk out and see if it will take grease. Might have to hold it with vise grips. If it takes grease then someone never greased the mower ever, seen this before.

Get an adjustable fitting for your grease gun so you can tighten it up on the zerk fittings so it won't slip off.

Ditto on this advice. I have had this happen several times over the years. If it does not take grease, then, go to a hardware store or farm supply store and buy a new zerk.

Good advise on just going to get new zerks, they are not that expensive and the time you are chasing around trying to get the old ones to clear is wasted not to mention frustration.

Yes, true, while it could be frustrating to have to replace all of the zerks and while I can honestly say I have never
in 10 years ran into this problem, it is nevertheless also true that it is not a very expensive fix and as the guys
are saying, probably best to just bite the bullet and get it over with, then at least your mower has all brand new zerks
and you can eliminate that off your maintenance list for a good 4-5 years or so.

While you're at the store buy some extras because you still need a few spare zerks, they will break here and there.

i had them out and no grease will go through just pushes the hose of the zerk...ill buy new ones, i guess i was wondering if there was a special fitting to keep the hose on the zerk

If you warm them with a torch I'll bet they would take grease.

Thats what I was going to suggest, heat them up. I like to use a heat gun though.

Then maybe as someone else already suggested, get a adjustable fitting for your gun so you can tighten it down on the zerk. You'll be able to get a lot more pressure to it.

Thanks for the second opinion WJC. Give a guy the correct way to fix his problem and he goes and puts a torch on the zerk fittings. Maybe some people shouldn't do maintenence on their own equipment.

Sounds like the tip of the gun is worn out, i go through 3 or 4 of them a year....

is there something wrong with trying all options?

maybe simple minded people shouldn't do their own maintenance since you wont think outside the box!
