View Full Version : Railings

I looked at a job this morning and among other things the HO's wanted a railing installed on their existing EP Henry steps. The steps have bullnose treads. The exposed stairs (5 steps) lead to an elevated patio.
Is it possible to install a railing after the fact? They were thinking something like wrought iron.
There are mulch beds on either side if that helps any.

What do you guys think? I may sub it out if it is too complicated.

Iron railings are installed after the block steps are constructed, yes.

Other then the bullnose and and the step block there is nothing in there to accept the railing. Can you tapcon the 2 bases of the railings to the bullnose and it be strong enough? It doesn't seem strong enough to me.

No bases. The railing fabrication company will core drill through the bull nose and through the block under the bull nose. Drop the railing post in. Firm up with a concrete based stuff.
