View Full Version : How many guy's use 20-50 weight oil in there mowers?

Unless you are in a very hot climate I wouldn't use that heavy of oil in a mower. 10-30 or straight 30 would be my choice.

I add Energy Release to my machines, rather than use heavier weights.

i use 10w-30 or strait 30 and have never had problems. thats what the owners manual recommends as well

Don't confuse high humidity and heat index with high temperatures. Remember that a heavier weight oil is going to take a little more horsepower and adds heat to the engine.

Take a look at the temp ranges released by the oil manufacturers. Use those as your guidelines.

I use it for chainbar oil, also certain hydraulic pumps take it, the air compressor uses ND 30 but
straight 30 is roughly the same as 20w-50, neither is even close to 10w-30...

That may be so but those two oils are nowhere near the same and shouldn't be used in the same sentence as if
the two were interchangeable, regardless of what some owner's manual might state, they're not.

Have run 15w50 Mobil 1 in every air cooled engine I own. Never ever have I had a problem. Push mowers, tillers, generators you name it. And NONE of them have ever used oil.

10-30w Amsoil in my engines. Mobil 1 filters.
