View Full Version : what happened to our "early" Fall

Many of us predicted an early leaf drop. Well here in PA the leaves are only barely beginning to show signs of turning. wIth the heat and dryness I was certain we'd see early leaf drop. Actually in looking at my own trees, it almost looks like they will hold their leaves like they did a few years ago when we had a wet summer. It was Decemeber until the pears came down.
Anyone else surprised how the trees have held on so far?

Trees here haven't even begun to show color changes yet.

Its still early for us here, but with all the rain this year it will probably be later again. Good thing, I don't have time for leaf jobs just yet.
in this area ,we had a lot o leaves dn due to drought. then the trees rebounded with rain. now it getting dry again.
but i still expect we will have a long leaf season, barring a real unseasonal freez.
these day tho, u just deal w what comes,
as theres no counting on the weather.
never was i guess.

i was thinking about this on the weekend.
being further north, we usually have quite a bit of leaf coverage by now.
but this yr, really yet to throw the catcher on. just hasn't happened. the colour is starting to turn though.
gonna be a long fall:)

around here the leaves are starting change, but nothing spectacular yet. i usually start first round cleanups right around halloween, but im not sure if there will be enough down by then. i sure hope so though.

Around here we are lucky to get much color. This year we did. Have yet to have a frost. Some years we have gotten 10 inches of snow the end of Sept.
This year there is good color, shades of yellow, and orange to red. Looks nice. But the leaves are beginning to drop pretty good now the last couple of days.

You know why the wind blows so hard in WY?
Hint most people in NE don't want to know the answer. :D :D
Actually the summers aren't bad for wind. Now winter and spring. Its bad.:dizzy:

Told ya Gary...you were getting too nervous too soon back in the Summer when we had that drought. Now look around?
Actually right now, I think the leaves are staying green and holding on longer this year then in past...dunno:confused:

yo Rod...your comment reminded me of something..this week I called 2 different lcos who I refer work to when its too big a job for me or if I'm booked up for too long...both of them told me they are not accepting one new job b4 mid to late November!...they are swamped...and as you predicted Rod, so are many of us right now. We need to hear from that plant guru guy ..I think his name is 'lawnstudent'??...he seems to know allot about the science of why plants/grass/trees do what they do...I'm glad its going to be a late leaf season...means profitable work into December..I'm just curious why they are late even changing let alone falling...

Just starting to turn here, of course some of the leaves are falling but not enough to justify a clean up. I still am cutting growth of 3+ inches on some lawns. Its hard to get them down with all the rain and cool weather we are having. Its raining now again. I'm still gonna cut.

The colors in southern Wisconsin are mostly all different colors now. Except for some Sugar Maples and such but most of them are turning. But the weather is crazy here, last weekend getting dumped on with alot of rain. Was almost 80 here on Friday or Sat i belive now its like only 45, yesturday had some frost in the morning while i was driving into school. Mother nature is throwing us a curve ball, just have to dress warmer when out mowing and keep doing what you've been doing all season long and enjoy it until the snow comes.

Maybe it's Lawnkid, Kitzy?
But you're right, there is someone close to that handle who knows alot of these things. Maybe he'll put in his 2 cents soon.
I would sure like to know...not that I am complaining, of course...LOL:D
