View Full Version : Retrofit air conditioning

I searched for this but didn't see anything, I have a 2000 Ford F250 - Do any of you know about aftermarket air conditioning retrofits for this vehicle? I talked to 2 Ford dealers and they wouldn't even give me an estimate on putting it in.

It has been a long time since I heard of any body wanting to do that. You might check with a Napa, see if they got any ideas.

Man that sucks, no AC. Maybe sell the truck and buy one with AC.

Well both good idea's! But I want to sell the truck and nobody wants to bid on it without Air Conditioning. If I was keeping it I wouldn't worry about Air Conditioning.

On our hot days (You know, the ones where we get to 70 -75F :D ) I just use our F350 that has AC. I'm keepig that one!

75 is that all?? I was in Alaska 20 years ago (ouch that hurts), during the summer. I can remember it getting up to 90.

Ya, actually it does get 90 or hotter...but not for very many days. I live south of Anchorage on the Kenai Peninsula and we had probably 14 or 15 days that were in the hi 80's this summer and I think we did hit 90's on one or 2. The interior gets hot more than we do, but I've even seen it 90 on the Artic Coast where I work.

it will cost way to much. you could buy all the parts and install it but it would cost about.
1.compressor reman: 350.00
2.evaperator coil: 150.00
3.expansion valve: 50.00
4. accumulater : 65.00
5.lowside hoses: 150.00
6. high side hoses:150.00
7. condensor: 250.00
8.refrigerant 134a:10.00/per pound(approx 4lbs.)
9. compressor oil: 10.00
10.switch: 100.00
11.high pressure safety switch: 40.00

so it will cost you 1400.00 plus labor and you will probably have to change refrigerant after a month or so.

A place called SCSFriggett quoted me a price for a whole kit for $831. dollars. They say they have complete step by step instructions and it is 95% wired. That's not real bad.
